Ok, so here we are at the feline tech support center for the smartbutton challenged

werewolf - The Stardock stuff in my path statement looks like this: D:\STARDO~1\OBJECT~1\OBJECT~1\ so it's hard to tell OE is my default txt editor...ie if I dbl click on a .txt file, OE is loaded.

the path item brakes down into:
D:\STARDO~1
\OBJECT~1
\OBJECT~1

what this is are the long file names translated into short (8 char) file names.

the number on the end goes up with each aditional dir that has the same name.

so if you have:
D:\LONG DIR NAME A
and
D:\LONG DIR NAME B

these would become:
D:\LONGDI~1
and
D:\LONGDI~2

respectively.

now for the good bit:
go to a command prompt in the root of D: and use the command:

cd STARDO~1

this takes you down the first directory.

repeat for all the dir's, and then use the "dir" command to see the files in the final dir.

odd's are that this is going to be the OE directory.

if so, try renaming OE, and then using the quick launch buttons to launch something.

since it wont be able to find the OE exe file, i am wondering what it will do.

it could be the only effective difference between your machine and mine (both win2k) is that OE is in the path.

this is reaching a bit, but the problem is frankely bizzare.

Well this is weird...I renamed the directory and the executable for Object Edit and the quick launch still loads the .exe into OE...Very weird.
