i am having a strange week. no work, which is nice this has done odd things to my schedule, and such.

i think i feel disconnected from a lot of things in part, which is a strange, and not all together unpleasant experience.

i think one of the things that has effected me most is that this place, and you dear people, are all the more valuable when i am at work, since i need to escape to a far nicer place. also, here is far more accessible from work than it is from home.

i will try and explain again in a minute.

so, apart from all the running around, going to town, sorting out paperwork, etc, /me has been experimenting with a lost art, writing letters on paper

it is a very strange sensation, there is no keyboard *scratches head in confusion*, and the inbuilt spell checker is rather lacking. no F7, so i cannot seem to trigger it at all

you know, doing this has brought home something to me. even though i tend towards long emails, they never seem to take long to write.

in comparison, i seem to have been letter writing every day for the last week, and i only produced two letters at the end of it!!! the number of hours that have gone into them is incredible. at the same time, i feel all content about them. they are such a different thing to an email you dash off in a quiet two minutes.

i have tried to work out how to explain this better, but am not sure where to start. the fact that i had yet another windows crash while thinking about it didnt help.

in part this is a place i love dearly, but there are times when it is just to hard (emotionally) to get here from my home machine. from work (when things are working) this place is just here, so i can reach out and touch it. it is not that i dont want to make the effort to come here while on holiday, it is more that i have tried to step back from the problems surrounding the computer, and to relax while on holiday.

Looks like feline is wearing a tin box for a straight jacket. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Had the same problem with my last pc. That one kept rebooting on me suddenly, usually while I was in the middle of something important. After months of misery I bought the pc I have now, figuring that was cheaper than upgrading the old one. I used the old hard drive as a slave as it had all my documents and files on it etc, two months after buying the new pc the slave failed - it was a faulty hard drive which had caused my old pc to frequent critical errors. Sigh! There was no way of knowing it was that without replacing all the bits one by one, I just couldn't afford to do that. I am now never without at least two hard drives. If one fails the worst case scenario is 40mins down time to restore an image to disk.
