The answer implies that the plugin will only work for 1.9x and 2.x, because objects are no longer separate windows. This has to do with the new DuirectGUI interface of DesktopX. I presume that the property functions (like GetProp()) are part of the crash cause.

Try to keep the code like it is, but use an alterntive for the properties.

/me decides to help, by providing GM with the correct list of things to bring, and things not to bring

now lets see:
clothes - don't bring any
beaches - bring lots
chocolate - bring lots and lots and lots!

and i don't think you should be bringing any sand crabs, after all, they may want to eat the chocolate, and i am not sure if there will be enough to go around as it is *giggles*

also, we don't want them detracting attention from OC.

MadIce, following the email response about DX plugins from Stardock, i have done some more digging.

basically, the comment about not using hWnd doesn't look helpful. tracing through the code of the DXTrash example, hWnd is actually set to the ID passed in to the plugin by DX when the plugin is created. look at the constructor for the CTrash class, and where it is called

also, by adding some debugging i have shown that my call to SD_SET_TEXT crashes DX on my work machine *giggles*

the only blot on all of this is that i don't have the "proper" .h here, so simply manually added the line:

#define SD_SET_TEXT 21

to the standard .h i have here. so, if i can reproduce this effect at home with the proper .h (i suspect i will be able to) then my debugging seems to show that i am calling the functions "correctly". so, presumably there is some setup state i have to go through to make this work.

there is even a document in there, but it is even older that the doc file on the website.
