Honestly, I would go to IRC for this kind of stuff, but if any of you have been there recently, everyone seems to be...inactive. Sooooooooo, out of boredom, I'm turning a thread among this msgboard into a chat room, anyone care to join? =P.

It's Sunday night, and I'm bored out of my mind. There's much to do, but I'm too lazy to get around to do it. My boyfriend is busying trying to get Visual Studios to work so I can't talk to him on the phone....and we can't seem to talk over the phone anyways...it'll just be silence mostly.

New Semester started........so anyone alive out there to join Elffie in this chat marathon? =P

Let's try not to let this post hang for over 2 hours, hm? =P

MadIce, is there any documentation on how to use the "SD_SET_TEXT" command? i have a working plugin that reports via a tooltip how long i have been online

i did this via the line:

SDHostMessage(SD_SET_TOOLTIP_TEXT, (DWORD)GetProp(hWnd, "dwid"), (DWORD)szBuffer);

where i set up the info string in szBuffer. the basic line is a copy of one already in the plugin sample code

however, when i added the line:

SDHostMessage(SD_SET_TEXT, (DWORD)GetProp(hWnd, "dwid"), (DWORD)szBuffer);

next to the first line, the plugin compiled fine, but this had no effect. so, i changed the object appearance from "image" to "text". DesktopX then crashed

this was using DX version 1.95b[b].002

so, i am suspecting i may have called this function the wrong way

on a different front, the SDPlugin.h you emailed me has about 30 more lines than the version on the stardock website, including an interesting looking structure called "SD_TEXT_INFO"

Currently my own player is drawing text instead, but in next versions it will use the SD Plugin API. So that means that I have not experimented with these myself. Do you mind if ask the Masters of Disaster and make sure you will be CCd?

i would be honored

i have no real experience of programming windows yet, so i dont know how to get the help in visual studio to tell me how to draw text "manually".

i looked up the drawing functions used to draw the hands on the analoge clock plugin, but they didnt link to any API info on drawing text.

if you want, i will email you my code, so you can see what i tried.

the sad news is the tooltip text does not work when you place the plugin into OB

my crowning achievement is fixing the "report viewer" program at work. all the author had to do was format some text. so what did he do? he produced 2500 lines of C pointer code!!!!
