AFAIK these definitions are descriped in the SP Plugin documentation. If you don't have that doc then maybe I can send you that one. OK?

i think i can see where i went "wrong". since this is windows programming, i assumed it was harder than it is
from the example code i have read, DesktopX seems to be providing a fairly complex
interface layer, so there isn't to much need to know anything about "real" windows
programming, at least for now!

i have a copy of the API document from the website, thanks for the offer
at first i found it rather overwhelming and confusing, but i am slowly getting
to grips with it.

and the only reference in the word document is: "SD_SET_TOOLTIP_TEXT"
and the only reference in the "sdplugin.h" is, again, "SD_SET_TOOLTIP_TEXT"

i found and used that, which is how i got my tooltip working
