Bootskin

I was just wondering if anybody can explain to me why bootskins that I make don't work? I've looked at other ones and made mine the same way and for some reason they don't want to work. Any suggestions?

I use PhotoShop for all my graphic stuff other than ray tracing. The thing that helped the most with bootskins was using an "adaptive" palette. It looks at all the colors in the picture and chooses the 16 that are most prevalent. That way when the number of colors is reduced it looks the closest to the original. The Skin Studio uses a fixed palette and you end up with with a really grainy result. The other trick is to be sure when you save the bmp file to make sure it is saved in 4 bit depth, not 8.
