Help with making glass effect

I have paint shop 8 and am getting kind of tired of using plugins for glass effect. Can anyone teach me how to do it without plugins? I mean I can make a sphere look like a glass ball but that's about it. I've looked for tutorials for this kind of effect but all I can find are tutorials for glass buttons. I've noticed all kinds of tutorials if you have photoshop, but I don't. So can anyone help or am I just out of luck.. Thanks

You know you can study a Photoshop tutorial, and get the basic idea from it, then make adjustments to use it it in PSP. If you were here in the same room with me, I could show you a couple of tricks in 5 minutes, but explaining them otherwise would take more time than I have right now.
