Just  a question, with all the new betas coming out, and no standardized updater out yet, Should we uninstall WindowFX 4 before installing WindowFX 5 or just install over top of it ? Same thing i guess for current WindowBlinds beta? This info in the announce posts would be helpful as well.

Thanks

I installed mine on top of FX4.

I see the the start menu animation is only for Win 7 not for Vista. Win7 on my laptop, Vista on my desktop.

Rosco_P advises uninstalling WFX4, rebooting and doing a clean install of WFX5.  FWIW.

Love it!

BUT got my first BSODs ever with Windows 7 thanks to this little bitty. 8(

I assume it's a conflict between the beta and some of the other Stardock customizations I run.  Here's the lowdown:

Select custom animation effects for anything but default, or the Start Menu, etc.  Move the item in question.  BSOD.

I'm running Windowblinds (latest version) with everything transparent, a different animated Deskscape on each of three monitors, Fences semi-transparent on the desktop, ObjectDock with at least one dock on each monitor, and Rainmeter with transparencies.

All of the items above play wonderfully together, but add this beta to the mix...crasharooski.  Note that momentum and some other windowFX seem to work fine.

The only common thread  to the crashes is the animation option, which would cause the shape of windows/start menu to change.

The bug is repeatable without fail on my machine (Windows 7 x64 btw).

Excalpius: What graphics card do you have and what did the BSOD screen say? Are you using recent drivers?

What do you have to do to cause the issue?  If it opening specific windows, or any window and is it at the start of the animation or when it finishes.

I suspect the BSOD is a video driver bug.

same here...

BSOD - Unexpected Error in the video manager.....

happened everytime I tried to move a Window after making configuration changes. Set all animations to random, turn off most of the right click items but not all, left resize windows disabled, turned off shake, changed the friction slider, tried to move the config window and BOOM! After reboot disabled the movement and it still happened and with other windows like Dopus and Control Panel.

My video setup is somewhat unusual....
3 monitors 1,2,3 left to right
HD4870 runs monitors 1 & 2 with 2 being the main (taskbar) monitor
HD5450 runs monitor 3

Had to uninstall the software for now....when I first installed it prior to making changes it was fine with moving windows even including inertia.

I can post the memory dump on dropbox if anyone thinks it will help.

Windows 7 x64 up to date - ATI Driver date 11/9/2011, 8.920.0 installed thru Windows Update

It is possible your multiple graphics card setup is the issue there as I doubt we have tested with multiple graphics cards.  We may have to indicate such a setup for animations is unsupported as multiple cards can complicate things considerably.

Where can we report bugs? I've spotted a few...

Understood.   Fortunately, all of your other awesome Stardock widgets and gadgets work great with multiple monitors/display cards these days, so I am grateful for that.  8)

Understood.  Looks like Lantec and I have very similar setups, although I am running nVidia cards and he is running ATI cards.  So it looks like it is not an OEM driver issue, per se.

Would one be better served to stay with WFX 4 on Vista?

All the features of WFX4 are available through WFX5.

and WFX5 is going to get fixes, WFX4 is not.

Good enough reasons?

Yes, just asking. Not complaining.
