how do I get the task panel back to vertical in the updated Windowblinds?

If you have 4.4 it should happen automatically when you apply a WB skin with that feature. But you can't just switch the Common Task Panel in any skin. The skin has to be built that way.

Sorry, I thought this was the exact same question that you had posted twice in the General section since the title is the same. Seems you've figured out to get the horizontal task panes working, and want it back to standard. You have to apply a skin with the standard common task panel, and close all Explorer windows.
