gender

It seems that there is a certain amount of confusion about the gender of my mind.

It seems from what people are saying that my mind appears to sit somewhere between male and female genders.

This seems quite normal to me, but seems to be generating un-necessary confusion. So lets turn the question on its head. According to certain philosophical thinkers (that would be me ) my current body is only a transitory collection of molecules (which most here are unlikely to ever meet), while my mind has and will exist across many many bodies. So if for the sake of postings on this board my body is ignored, what is my gender, and does it matter?

I suspect the only reason it matters is that people react differently to me if I am perceived as male or female. But surely I am just me? A lot of people who have met me would agree that “me” is sufficient definition

So I am curious, why do people think that I am the gender that they think I am, does it matter to them, and if so why?

/me decides this is all far to serious, so time to change tack

if the majority conclude my mind is primarily female, is it ethically acceptable for me to use my long lashes and preoccupying cleavage to get chocolate out of men?

ps for the sake of Jafo, I have made an exception and put this though Word, so any remaining spelling issues should be referred to Microsoft

feline, people want to know your gender simply because it'll help them decide whether to hit on you or not. Take it from someone who's been mistaken for a female several times over the five years I've been using the internet

I suppose that only a female can post a thread like this one...

Oh yes, I say female, ost definatly. I hae spotted a few posts from feline where she seemed to have slipped and inadvertently exposed her gender through sentences such as "feline says that she likes chocolate". Unless her spelling is bad to the point of confusing her pronouns ("she" and "he")...
Of course, I could be wrong, but I put my bet on female.

I'd say male, going my your email address.

/me can be heard being muttered from a safe hiding place

ask Jafo for an objective assesment of that one, but it is probably my spelling, since it wasnt deliberate *sigh*

/me PANIC
/me runs off looking for more duveys for protection, for they have found my address

the other answer is that the address is tied to my body, not my mind

does not make any difference if you are female or male. You can be hit anyway in both case.

adni18 - I suppose that only a female can post a thread like this one...

/me tries to find a male brain cell to interogate as to why

and then off course, what does your logic say about the people who post to a thread like this one?

Yes - but by chosing to use that address, you affirm it's validity as an indication of your personality.

At least, that's the way I see it . . . *g*

/me *sad sigh*
so true
thoughts like that make me want to give up on whole chunks of the human race.

TheGreenReaper - you affirm it's validity as an indication of your personality.

i would agree with that
but in a sence this is the point i am confused over, for this is one of many indicators, (there is more to someone than their gender), plus a uniqe label. for without a uniqe label, how whould the chocolate delivery man ever find me?

The reason why it matters, kitty, is because people have to decide whether to address as "she" or "he". Example:

"Damn that feline, he/she/it ate all my chocolate"

It would be so much easier if people knew and could say:

"And I just know he is chuckling out of his chair over all that gender confusion"
See?

/me bribes feline with chocolate cookies

feline, I really don't care if you are male or female, but I'd like to ask for some advise.
I have a cat and he hates chocolate, what do you suggest for him to beggin to like it?

See, that's where I have an advantage - there's very few GreenReaper's around . . .

It *is* hard to be individual, though. After all, if you're one in a million, there's about 6000 of you. I guess all you can do is try and find an identifier that works for you and only you. Difficult.

craeonics - "Damn that feline, he/she/it ate all my chocolate"

as memory serves the statememt would be:
"Damn that Doreen, she ate all my chocolate"

i just hid it for later

craeonics - bribes feline with chocolate cookies

keep this up and i might even tell you about the secret chocolate bar stash

treetog - I have a cat and he hates chocolate, what do you suggest for him to beggin to like it?

several thoughts come to mind:
a) keep it all to your self, but eat it in front of the cat in question, the odds are good the cat will want what you are eating
b) give it all to me
c) share it with the love of your life, for a happy human is a good human (they are more amenable when cats what the door opened at 3am)

thats an interesting thought
6000 of me all here at once!
now that is an idea that would give most of the people at work nightmares

Paxx and trans thinks feline is a female?
me thinks possibly male (but "still" not certain)

and I was going to eat that last peice of chocolate but it was all melted so I just threw it away...

Feline...as I probably said once before....most people would consider it common courtesy to not mis-represent themselves as something they are not, or allow confusion and/or uncertainty to prevail.
It is disrespectful of your communiciation recipient, tantamount to lying by admission/omission.

Because of this, although you believe you are being 'cute', I simply endure the subterfuge.

I have little interest in playing games with a false non-entity.
I prefer to communicate with 'real people' who apply the code of mutual respect...

/me throws 'it' a bar of chocolate after admonishing 'it'...

/me goes to check that subterfuge word now...
