Icon packager 2.5 Problem: app icons

My application's (all or most of my .exe )default icons ( the ones included in the exe )are not showing, i only see the "default" icon.

This happened after i changed one of the icons using icon packager. I even made a windows repair install and did not work.

Please Help me!!

Thanks

I'm using 2.5
Before this version everything worked ok

I've tried many things:
Rebuild icon cache, restore all icons,
I've tried repairing the icons with tweakUI,
I've checked the default icon value in exefile in the registry...

I don't know what to do....

I even made a windows repair install, but the icons where not restored.
I really don't want to do a fresh install.

Please Help me

Thanks

Did you change your reference for exe files using iconpackager? If so, check your folder options under file types and see if there is a reference for exe extensions.

My application's (all or most of my .exe )default icons ( the ones included in the exe )are not showing, i only see the "default" icon.

I'm not sure I completely understand the problem by your description either. "My applications default icons are not showing"... then you say the default icons are showing.."I see only the default icon". Which is it? Are the default icons for exe showing or not showing?

Ok, let me get this clear.

Normally every .exe file shows it own icon (if it includes one).

But after i changed the icon for another file type (not .exe's), all the .exe files started to show the "default" icon only ( the one that is displayed when windows does not recognize a file type ) instead of the one included in each one of the .exe files

I haven't changed the exe reference. The .exe files are recognized by windows as applications and behave as such, but
they only show this "default" icon.

I've checked the file association for the .exe files in the registry, and it looks right (or so i think), the exefile's defaulticon value is set to %1 as it should be, and the .exe default value is set to exefile.

I've also tried deleting the icon cache, repairing it with tweakUI, as well as with the "restore all icons" and "rebuild icon cache" tools in iconpackager. Nothing works.

I even made a windows repair install.

I have no other ideas, maybe i'll have to do a windows fresh install...

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

It sounds to me like you corrupted something badly. This might be your best option. A word to the wise. Don't do that again!!

From the IconPackager Newsgroup...This is supposed to fix the exe problem you are having.

this happened to me and i was just about to reformat when i found this...
( i reworded it coz it wasnt very clear) if u never used regedit before dont
worry its easy just do EXACTLY as it says here

1. run Regedit

2. delete this entry entry
(HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\IconHandler) < delete the entire
string (looks like a folder)
3. add this key to the reg this key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers\Digital Signatures
with following data {22391867-2469-4DEC-8091-91A5AA1EF12}<- to do this
just click add data and copy and paste it.

4 Logout/login

Everything works fine!!!!

Many thanks to Brian Harper
