Yup, I couldn't agree more with that Zubaz.

Absolutely.

Well, when things aren't going your way, the best way to deal with it is to lock the post, and then, it seems, to delete it like it never existed.  Pretty sure nobody violated TOS, at least as far as my last post.  I can't view anything after that because it's magically gone.

What has been going on and on and on today has been really worth posting the Worf gif.

Some of us know who wanted to control that.

That was never me.  *I* thought the Worf was funny.  But yes, I agree, there have been choices made that are very Worf-worthy.

Parts of the drama *are* (mostly) available in google's cache.

[I wonder if that makes them evil.   :S ]

It's probably just my ongoing senility, but.....

....WTF?????

Let's review:

We have people who think Doc is leading them to the path of destruction, others who think Google is stealing their souls and now Zub thinks there is a massive conspiracy to censor the boards....

What's next? Houdini really is fuckin' comin'  back??????

How about we all put our tin hats back in the closet.....??

I don't know the ins and outs of this one.... just saw the beginning of it before I hit the hay.... but.. I have observed an increasing number of threads being locked over time.... 'cause they were past their use by date... or considered to be finished with....or..problem solved........ I also seem to remember when this subject came up some years back with people being annoyed at posts being locked.... that frogboy said quite clearly there would be no more locking of posts...

In any community/family... here... or out there... there will be differences of opinion and ideas... passionate and heated debate.... and bitchin' and moanin'.... it's just part of life.... while at times it will need assistance to keep a lid on it.... it can make the place a little sterile to stifle it..   that being said... those who are feeling particularly antagonistic...can always take it to Joe User...

again... this comment is a general observation... not pertaining to this thread in particular....  I was snoozin'

When I made the "Reminds me of the cigarette companies..." remark I didn't intend or expect the 2nd part to be taken literally.  I have no idea what happened after that as I just posted it and turned off my machine and moved on, fully expecting the thread to go on about its merry way the way most of those types do.  If that turned out to be a major mistake, then I do apologize for that.

As far as locking/deleting posts,  I have to admit I'm wondering what the heck has happened there too.  On the other hand, seems like the mods to a pretty good job, and I suspect in this case I'm not missing out on anything terribly important.  So I think I'll go do something.

(Hope things didn't get too vicious.)

I thought that things were going just fine when the post in question went buh-bye.  That is the part that puzzled me.  No one was being rude or crass or what-have-you.

While there doesn't seem to be a conspiracy, there seems to be more locking of posts than there once was and it struck me as odd enough to post about it.  I don't appear to be the only member noticing.

I don't think there is an extra string of locked threads, at least not for the topics at hand.  Jafo and I have been locking threads because they were getting hit with spambots, and because of double-posting issues which I want to keep in one area so I can track them better.

I had a post locked last night I think, but that was only cause I found another post by island dog that addressed the same problem i was having,

so i understood why it was locked.

I could understand locking a post if it gets completely off subject because of some idiot like me.

-With that in mind, hey Zubaz, can you get me a discount on some ridiculous zebra print pants? ...Please? :-"

I had a post locked today.  I assume because it was similar to another post, which was posted after mine.  Unless it was locked due to my posting someones stupid ass Private Message.  Was that it?  Anyone?  Please tell me?

woah, yeah that could have been it natas, posting a pm is really a huge violation.....

natas2...I missed the post so I can't say but if you posted a PM, it could be the reason.

PM are private and should never be posted to a public forum.

I go to sleep and the proverbial hits the fan.

I think I count 4 locked threads... and I locked two of them. One was Kitty's as it was redundant once she had found Island Dog's thread addressing her topic, and the other was no longer relevant as the query no longer applied.

A third has been locked as it was a duplicate of the same topic - and we typically try to keep subjects in the one place.

The fourth appears to have deteriorated into fisticuffs for some obscure reason.

Sometimes yrag is the one sane person here ....;)

I've looked around and can't find anything so could someone please show me where it says PMs should NEVER be posted in forums.  I'd appreciate it.  I think it's total BS that someone can put something in a PM and not worry about rebuttal because there's this supposedly written rule about not posting PMs in forums.  I mean, fuck, someone tells me I should change my post because he worked his little tail off coming up with a half assed photoshop of a t-shirt and some ripped text from an article and there isn't shit I can do about it.  On top of that, he's a fucking mod.

That's a rant.  I'm pissed.  Been pissed all day.  I've tried to let it go, even promised Hankers I'd try to resolve it and let it go but FUCK!  And the really messed up thing is that, because I'm not a mod or an inner child of light around here, I'll always be on the losing end.  No matter what I do or say, I'm wrong.

I guess if you had a complaint about the sender's PM it could be forwarded to someone responsible at stardock/wc for handling?

I think there's been more control applied of late to forum content.

Send a mods post to a mod.  Yeah, that'll get taken care of...

'Personal Message'.

Is it really necessary for the definition of 'personal' to be cited here?

The reason private messages need to remain private is that once public there is no opportunity for a third party observer to verify whether the published message has been 'doctored' or not, as the only people who will know are the sender and the recipient.

There is too much scope for abuse of the function, so they remain as their name defines/intends ... PRIVATE.  ;)

People in the past have been removed from the site for continued publishing of Private Messages.
