The most fully featured Stardock premium suite yet - Oxidized Desktop.  Created by long time skinner, Paul Boyer (Mormegil) who has created countless WindowBlinds, icon packages, and DesktopX objects over the years, Oxidized Desktop includes:

  • A WindowBlinds visual style
  • Oxidized icon package
  • Oxidized ObjectDock Plus backgrounds - with tabs
  • Oxidized ObjectDock background
  • Oxidized Boot Skin
  • Oxidized calendar widget
  • Oxidized system meter widget
  • Oxidized clock with integrated weather
  • Oxidized wallpaper
  • Oxidized program launcher widget
  • Oxidized Media Player (see screenshot)

Another nice thing about the widgets is that you can have a hot key (default to F9 and F10 but you can make it whatever) to hide the widgets entirely or have them activate on top of your window so that they're easily accessible.

This suite has been designed specifically to be both cool looking and useful. If the screenshot looks "cluttered" bear in mind that's because we're trying to show it all off.  All the widgets can be hidden with a hot key and the docks/icon size controlled by you.

Brad - I'm not sure how I feel about this. I certainly don't mind putting up some cash to help starving artists! Heh, everyone needs some beer money. But as far as I know this is the first time Stardock has created a theme for sale "in-house". I think this marks a definite departure from previous themes. Mormegil's work is awesome, but when he did Orion and Toon it was not as an employee in Livonia. Even with Pixtudio and Skinplant, that is their business model, graphics and design, I can accept that and support it. It just seems you are trying to own the code and the art. I could draw similarities to an OS giant creating a Search engine, you get my drift... does bundling come to mind! I might very well change mind, but I need to think about this some more. Bill

I don't see the logic there, Kith.

Where does it matter where Paul works? Whether we contract a third party or have someone who's employed full time, how does that matter? It seems to me that the ideal scenario would be for people to be able to be employed full time making skins and themes.  The end result is that people want to have high quality skins and themes put together in a suite.  And doing that takes a LOT of time.  It took a LOT of time to put this together.

Universe Metal 2004 was done mostly internally, btw. So was the Aquarium Desktop. I think the ideal situation is if skinners could make a living creating this sort of content. And it's not as if Paul hasn't continued to create freely available content.

Our goal is to provide premium level content for skinning fans.  And at $7 to $9 that's pretty cheap my lunch at Panera Bread today costs more than this suite. And there's a LOT of stuff in it.

Incidentally, we have a lot of projects in the pipeline with third parties as well.

Kudos to Paul, an excellent suite!

Even though I'll have to commit some heresy and say I still like K-TEK better , this is still a great addition to my skin collection!

Great job!

Can you edit widgets, as in break em down and modify them? It's interesting looking, but I modify almost everything I use, and I couldn't see buying this if it wasnt possible (widget related). Maybe you can, no idea. Could someone clarify?

Nice, and as always a lot of effort on making quality smooth graphics. But just not useable on a day to day basis, even at 1600

Kudos to Paul.

Frog - The price is very reasonable and no one will ever question Pauls artistic or techinical craftsmanship. His work is top notch. I understand you want to provide awesome themes. I know that is probably easier to do in house with one author, as it provides a consistent look and feel. I just think there are quite a few people out there who could use the work. People who have been friends and customers of Stardock for a long time. I appreciate your response and can see your point, thanks.

I see you point, Sir kith, but for me there are more than enough third party skins sold here and continue to be sold here. Toon XP being one of them and as well as Spider-man (I believe that is SkinPlant)

This makes sense, and I am for it. Lets hope that WinCustomize Version 4 with a WinCustomize subscription allows even more skinners to sell there wares to the public at large (like DA Prints or something)

Totally not my cup of tea this time. And I think Paul stayed way under his possibilities. Whatever happened to Atlas ? I don't hope this is related to it.
