ObjectDock Plus Beta 3

ObjectDock Plus Beta 3

http://www.objectdock.com

FIXED FOR OD+ Beta 3:

x-crashed windows don't disappear from taskbar at times, and always when grouped. This has been fixed.

x-For tooltips (e.g. in tray) with newline symbols, spaces are now shown for them instead of boxes (sorry, no multiline tooltips anytime soon)

x-http:// links will now get the web document icon not question mark.

x-General options (e.g. label font) don't save properly if no normal dock. This has been fixed.

x-Font changes don't have effect until restart of program at times. This has been fixed.

x-Flyouts would not operate correctly if you had a tabbed dock and a zooming dock, then closed the zoom dock. They would, however, resume working once the program was restarted. This has been fixed, no zooming dock is needed at all anymore for flyouts to work properly.

x-Memory would leak when all of the following were true simultaniously: (1) a system tray tab was present on a tabbed dock, (2) one or more icons in the tray were set to show small representations of their icons in the corner, (3) that tab is not selected and (4) those icons animated frequently

x-Zooming docks showing on monitors other than the primary would have their labels show up on the primary monitor. This has been fixed, labels are now correctly positions with docks placed on other monitors.

x-ObjectDock would crash when creating a new dock, or (closer to the root of the problem:) when adding a 'Start Menu' entry. This has been fixed! (This problem would have effected crashes in flyouts and other shortcuts potentially also ; this is an important fix)

x-Adding TIF images to the dock could crash it under some circumstances. This has been fixed.

x-Fixed potential issue with adding non-32bit icons to dock and having it crash.

x-Adding an application to the dock via "Add App to Dock" menu option when right clicking windows now makes a shortcut with the full path of the program, not just filename

x-Add a way to get to the about box (from the tray icon)

x-A zooming dock set to not always be on top will no longer animate when the mouse is over another program, that happens to be covering a portion of the dock. Under the new behavior, it will only animate when the cursor is actually over a visible part of the dock.

Great app, no doubt. My only problem - and one that isn't particularly related to this - is how to "proxy enable" objects (weather for example) that require internet connectivity.

My network requires one to pass credentials (username/password) before access is granted. There must be a way to enable an object's script to provide this functionality. Anyone? Please!? I MUST know the outside temperature at ALL times!!

I know this is slightly off topic to this discussion, but I'm looking for guidance.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Everyone,

I just installed BETA 3 and I dont see much of a difference visually. Is BETA 3 just a bug fix beta because I dont see much difference from BETA 2 to BETA 3.

If anyone see a difference let me know... since there is no way of finding out which OD+ your running I want to make sure that I actually got OD+ BETA 3.

Thx

All the next beta releases should be just bug fixes. new features come after bug fixes i should imagine.

Two features I'd really want are:

- a Most Recently Used Programs Tab, sort of the equivalent of the MRU Programs on the XP Start Panel.

- folder filtering or a most recent documents with filtering or size limiting. I know I can add the Recent folder under the User Profiles to get Recent documents, but that folder can grow so large.

So far though, I love the program.

When I updated to the new beta all of my non tabbed docks became very jerky when I mouse over them Anyone else have this problem?
Note: The last beta I installed I got from an e-mail with my code, downloaded and installed, this latest beta I installed from within Stardock Central could this have caused a problem? Should I have uninstalled the existing install first?

Uninstalling beta3 and reinstalling beta2 fixed the jerky mouse behavior in non tabbed docks

ObjectDock plus looks great! There are a few things holding me back from buying it at this point:

Tray: I can't find a way to customize the icons in the tray, hide/show certain icons, and my virus scanner and volume control don't show up... I would just use the system tray docklet, but it crashes objectdock about every hour or so.

Tray/Taskbar: I would like to be able to have the tray and taskbar on the same dock so I can have a single dock that replaces my startbar.

As soon as these issues are resolved, or a find a workaround/docklet, I will certainly be purchasing a copy of Object Dock plus! The flyout menus are certainly an interesting way to navigate!

potsofdirt,

How are you getting to try out OD+ before buying?

Based on the reviews I would probably buy it if I could just get a demo or see something more than screen shots.

I just purchased this. Are you supposed to uninstall the object dock (free 1) first?

Thus far, the plus version looks exactly like the free one. How to make it look like the screen shot?

Thanks.

There should be a system tray icon and you can create tabbed docks there.

Thanks I installed the newest beta that was on star dock central, and it no longer looked like the older version. I can see that this is going to be a useful app.

There does seem to be a problem though. I cannot seem to run object dock plus as a limited user account in xp pro. I can run it when "run as" is chose (run as user with admin rights by right clicking)

But, when doing that, an error window pops up, the typical windows has a problem, etc.

In the event viewer it says faulting application sdmcp.exe version 0.0.5.8 faulting module sdmcp.exe version 0.0.5.8 fault address 0x00001912

Bob Frank,

I have a friend who has it, so I got to play around with it.

P.S. If the current release schedule holds true (14th, 21st, 28th) we should see a new beta tomorrow (Aug 4th) since it is a week since the last beta.

potsofdirt,

Rats.

I was hoping I had missed the release of some kind of demo. I guess I'll just have to wait until Brad does a video of it.
