ObjectDock Plus Beta 3

http://www.objectdock.com

FIXED FOR OD+ Beta 3:

x-crashed windows don't disappear from taskbar at times, and always when grouped. This has been fixed.

x-For tooltips (e.g. in tray) with newline symbols, spaces are now shown for them instead of boxes (sorry, no multiline tooltips anytime soon)

x-http:// links will now get the web document icon not question mark.

x-General options (e.g. label font) don't save properly if no normal dock. This has been fixed.

x-Font changes don't have effect until restart of program at times. This has been fixed.

x-Flyouts would not operate correctly if you had a tabbed dock and a zooming dock, then closed the zoom dock. They would, however, resume working once the program was restarted. This has been fixed, no zooming dock is needed at all anymore for flyouts to work properly.

x-Memory would leak when all of the following were true simultaniously: (1) a system tray tab was present on a tabbed dock, (2) one or more icons in the tray were set to show small representations of their icons in the corner, (3) that tab is not selected and (4) those icons animated frequently

x-Zooming docks showing on monitors other than the primary would have their labels show up on the primary monitor. This has been fixed, labels are now correctly positions with docks placed on other monitors.

x-ObjectDock would crash when creating a new dock, or (closer to the root of the problem:) when adding a 'Start Menu' entry. This has been fixed! (This problem would have effected crashes in flyouts and other shortcuts potentially also ; this is an important fix)

x-Adding TIF images to the dock could crash it under some circumstances. This has been fixed.

x-Fixed potential issue with adding non-32bit icons to dock and having it crash.

x-Adding an application to the dock via "Add App to Dock" menu option when right clicking windows now makes a shortcut with the full path of the program, not just filename

x-Add a way to get to the about box (from the tray icon)

x-A zooming dock set to not always be on top will no longer animate when the mouse is over another program, that happens to be covering a portion of the dock. Under the new behavior, it will only animate when the cursor is actually over a visible part of the dock.

Thank you for the new Beta......

Here's my Big Ole Bunch of Feature Requests (Previously Posted in the OD NewsGroup)

* Flyout Menu Option - function like a regular dropdown menu (16x16 icon and
text to the right) instead of the spinning wheel - it's a neat effect, but
not practical for quickly finding a file

* Accept other icon appearance changing programs icons in shortcuts - If I
change a shortcut's icon using either the shortcut's properties or
microangelo's appearance, both xp and microangelo recognize the change. ODP
doesn't and I have to change the icon using Dock Entry Properties - In
comparison, changing icons was much easier with XP Toolbars.

* Dock Entry Properties - Change Image - Choose Image Browser (for lack of a
better name) - doesn't allow for the use of icon libraries (*dll or *icl) to
an icon from. Only *ico, *png and *exe

* Systray Icon(s) - This is probably one of the things I'm missing - I've
only got one tabbed dock running at the top of my desktop (I closed the
default zoomer dock at the right side of the screen - one of the reasons I
stayed with XP Toolbars for so long was because I never cared for this dock
in the free version). In my systemtray I'm showing two icons, one for
ObjectDock Plus and one for ObjectDock Cabinet. What do I do to get just one
icon to show that gives me access to all the menu options available in both
icons. And also make that menu configurable as to what does show in it.

* To be able to set up tabs that are attached to folders on your PC so that
you can drag a file from your desktop and drop it in the folder (and
vise-versa) without having to open an explorer window.

* To allow it to be skinned by Windowblinds as an option using the taskbar
and tabs images from the WB skin.

* To be able to adjust the transparency level and add/control drop shadows
instead of mimicking them in the image.

* To be able to add sounds to the different functions (mouseover, pressed,
switching tabs, etc.)

* To be able to add mouseover states to both the tabs and the icons....like
on the XP taskbar.

* Increased flexibility in configuring fonts, colors and margins.

* Auto-tabbing - intelligently bring to the foreground whichever tab made
the most sense at that time (example: if your using a weather docklet and
the weather is updated, the tab that the docklet is on moves to the
foreground, same thing for email, Norton security alerts, etc.) Optional
have an associated sound and/or flashing (for hearing impaired)

* Auto-resizing of dock. When dragging a tabbed dock from the top to bottom
and back the tabs flip to the correct size....cool. When dragging a tabbed
dock from the top or bottom to the left or right sides, the tabs work
correctly and the correct image shows for the background, but you have to
manually resize the bar, because it doesn't change shape, it just looks like
a top/bottom bar with the tabs on the sides.

* Editing in SKS Pro - though it's wicked easy to create backgrounds and
tabs, maybe as a benefit for those of us who have purchased ODNT or SKS Pro
separately, be able to edit and preview in SKS Pro. This would help with
making sure the background.ini file is correct

Great little utility

What I really still miss is :

- "Duplicate item" menu/button in normal and flyout environment
- configurable menus

Other than that : Great !

Why dont you try updating stardock central so that us people that have actually spent money on it can upgrade it. Because i've purchased this software, and dont seem to be able to get an update email of the download link and the serial into my yahoo inbox.

bug fixes and stability first, new features later.. Betas are not the time to add new features, betas are the time to polish up the features..

Finally!!!

For years, I have been looking for a little program launcher that would dock to the edge of the screen and have tabs for different types of programs so that I could launch them quickly. And here it is! Object Dock Plus!

I now have my replacement for the venerable TabLaunchpad. And that makes me very happy indeed.

Now, if setting the dock to be a drawer at the left side of the screen would actually turn the dock 90 degrees so the tabs could be on the side and still readable...

Reble - You'll need to be able to contact support.  We're working to get it up on SDC but we're having some problems with the backend.

My compliments to the chef. Beta 3 has fixed the 'Start Menu' bug for me and I find that thrilling! Now, I've got so many working docks on my screen I can't see what I'm typing!!

It's available via SDC now (Thursday).

If Yahoo is blocking emails from Stardock, add them to your whitelist. Or find some way to email [email protected] with details on what's going on so I can try and get it resolved. We've got reverse pointers, SPF, and who knows what other stuff going on the mailserver to show that we are who we say we are.

My problem is that the installation of the b3 client destroyed all my docks that were already created with the b2 version!!!

That's really kinda annoying.. *sigh*

Herbzilla, thank you! I should have spent more time playing with tit before I posted my comments. I was on my way out to a meeting - to which I was almost late because of installing Object Dock Plus this morning.

This is just about the sweetest add-on I've ever bought.

I'm very tempted to buy OD+ but I'd still like to see it in action first.

A time, use or feature limited demo would be great. But as a minimum I would like to see the "Stardock TV" demonstration that Brad indicated would be coming soon.

Ok, I am so going to get this app. I wasn't at first, but now I think I will... and that spider-man thing too.
