WindowBlinds 7 Update Issue - 09/30/09

Windows Update page will not load

As soon as I loaded the latest update for WindowBlinds 7, I was unable to load Windows Update.  The update page will not load.  If I unload Window Blinds, Windows Update is fine.  To make matters even more interesting, Microsoft decided to install a new version of their update software today instead of waiting for patch Tuesday.  Otherwise, I wouldn't have known there was a problem.

I tried uninstalling WindowBlinds 7 and the Microsoft Update page loaded just fine.  When I reinstalled WindowBlinds 7, the Microsoft Update page would not load again.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Does anyone have a solution?

I have been pushing for increased control over the showing of prereleases.

This way people who are comfortable with RC builds could say yes to prereleases while not downloading the more beta releases. Right now they can either show betas or not.

I can't promise that this will ever show up (its been on my request list for since before Impulse was released), but I hope it will eventually.

I totally agree Neil. But I can see how this could also be confusing to some people.

I just feel there is a way for people who have already installed a beta product to relate problems back to the developers without having to hash it over here in the forum. No one likes putting up signs saying "we have a problem and are working on it." Sort of like road construction and detours.

Sort of like if you are going to install a beta product you must first register for it and be eligible to recieve such a product. Meaning they are a Object Desktop Ultimate subscriber and understand that this is a beta product they are signing up to use and report problems to whomever is in control of this beta project.

Then we can have a beta support thread on the forum if need be. Plus setup a channel on irc to handle communications with those that are involved.

But all that takes people with a good idea of what all is to do and what not to do. Sort of like rules for a moderator for beta interest at heart.

Plus even a on going thread for beta's being tested and those to be coming soon. Something to keep everyone more informed to what is going on.

Actually what I'm trying to do is stear the beta user's away from the support area. Bring them together at another place and handle things a bit better with the testing and the results and/or the bugs as such.

Your idea is a good one Neil. I just do not think it will happen for reasons of what I think of here. But it sure would be nice to see a change to where we are more organized at the community to handle a project as I've got in mind here.

Whatever you people come up with I'm game and will do whatever I can to help with this for now or anytime in the future.

Neil, that would be wonderful!  I hope you can get there someday.  While it does say beta waay down at the bottom, it would be much easier if the title of the new version said beta right on it.  I have no problem testing a beta product as long as I know up front what I'm getting into.  I have not had a major problem with WB 7 other than the issue with Windows Updates and that certainly wasn't critical.  It is very easy to miss the info at the bottom of the screen.

I've been "out there" with computers since 1964.  The first computer I used filled an entire room and there was no monitor.  You typed on a machine pretty much like a typewrite and punched holes in cards.  No problems with video though because there wasn't any.  Later, I took a course in Fortran.  I've seen a lot and used almost every version of Windows ever put out except Windows 2000.  I don't think I missed a whole lot there.  At this point in time, I have one computer and it's critical that it be up and running.  I am considering a second rig so I can do more beta testing.  For now, though, I cannot risk having this rig down.  However, I would be happy to run beta 2s or RCs.

Thanks so much for getting the fixes done so quickly.  I ran the update tonight and all is well here.
