WindowBlinds 7 Update Issue - 09/30/09

Windows Update page will not load

As soon as I loaded the latest update for WindowBlinds 7, I was unable to load Windows Update.  The update page will not load.  If I unload Window Blinds, Windows Update is fine.  To make matters even more interesting, Microsoft decided to install a new version of their update software today instead of waiting for patch Tuesday.  Otherwise, I wouldn't have known there was a problem.

I tried uninstalling WindowBlinds 7 and the Microsoft Update page loaded just fine.  When I reinstalled WindowBlinds 7, the Microsoft Update page would not load again.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Does anyone have a solution?

Update to my previous post.  If I simply unload WindowBlinds 7, the Microsoft Update page loads fine.  As soon as reload WindowBlinds 7, the Microsoft Update page fails to load.  Here is my system info if needed.  The video card showing below is actually my backup card.  My new one is a BFG Nvidia GTX 260 that failed.  It has been RMA'd to BFG.  Hope to get something back soon.

I'm seeing this problem too. It was present with the .6.70(or65) version that I updated from as well. I just didn't know it until I tried to view which updates MS had to install. Then I updated to the most recent version and it's still an issue.

I just ran Windowss update and it works

Did the updates require a reboot and have you tried to open windows update since?

Lantec, you bring up a good point.   I ran Windows update but since I stay current there were no updates for me to load, so I don't really know if I have a problem.  :S

Yes, and I rebooted, still no windows update.  :(

I have the same thing going on here.  There are "optional updates" in my Windows update, which I don't want to download, so I know that there IS, in fact, a problem.

Funny thing is, my other rig has windows update. Strangeness....  :|

You know you have a problem if you get the screen shown in reply#3. And I can't get updates by going to IE8 and giong to the WU site. I get an error.  Turn off WB, updates work! :|

Thanks for the idea RedneckDude but NView is not on.  Up until now I have had no problems with the Beta except that dwm.exe is always saying is "failed."  However, you would only know this if you go to the Reliability Monitor and checked the reports.  I just checked Windows Update again when I got home.  The error is still the same.  The Windows Update page does not load.  You just get a blank page saying the page won't load.  If your page says you are up to date, then you're okay.  I just unloaded Window Blinds again and now the Windows Update page is fine.

I forgot to mention that right after I ran the lastest WindowBlinds update, I got a Protexis.exe error.  Not good.  However, I went out to Microsoft and revalidated the install so that problem seems to be solved.  The odd thing about all of this is that Microsoft issued a new version of their update software off schedule and it ran automatically which it should not have done.  In the past, their updates have caused problems so I set Windows Update to alert me.  That way, I can close out what I'm working on and avoid problems.  At this point, I am going to uninstall WindowBlinds again and see if I can go back and install only WindowBlinds 6 until the latest bugs get worked out.

Love your walls, etc. by the way and look forward to seeing more of them.

Well all you folks are correct, i didn't know that I have a problem because i didn't have any critical updates,  I had one optional one and downloaded it and got the screen you all are talking about. :S

Why is this kind of stuff happening?

Can someone do history as to what update this is that has been installed to cause the problem.

Do a history check and please list the kb #'s ...

Thank you

Shelby, the latest update to Microsoft Update came out on 09/28/09 which means it was probably out there on 09/29 but I didn't notice it.  Last night when I got home, I loaded Impulse and there was the update for WindowBlinds.  In the middle of that, the update from Microsoft also started to install.  It got very interesting for awhile there.  :annoyed: Things finally smoothed out after I revalidated Vista but the update page error still persists.

The latest update to WindowBlinds came out on 09/30/09 so Stardock may not have had time to address the issue with Microsoft Update.  My guess is they will do a patch to solve the issue.  I have uninstalled WindowBlinds twice, rebooted, checked for invalid registry files, etc. and I still get the error.  When I clicked on the link you sent, it goes to the web page and then the blank page comes up saying it couldn't load the update page.  If I unload WindowBlinds, Microsoft update works just fine.

At this point, I am not really worried about Windows update.  Windows 7 ships on 10/26 and I am eagerly awaiting it's arrival.  I haven't had any major problems with Vista but I have spent a lot more time under the hood than I did with XP.  The worst OS I ever used was Windows ME, aka Misery Everlasting.  That was a trip!  I am counting the days until Windows 7 arrives.  :D
