Thanksgiving, by Jacob.

Being thankful is nice and a good thing to do.  Here are some things I appreciate.  I'm thankful for my family, my friends and a free country.

I think my family is great.  My hole family is nice.  My cosens and I play together.  All the people in my family like me.

Another thing is I am thankful for my friends.  We all play together.  Everyone is smart.  My friends and I share secrets.

I believe in a free country.  Everyone in the country can choose for themselves.  Freedom is a wonderful thing.  It is nice to be able to go where we want without restrictions.

These are some things I am thankful for and I'm thankful for a lot of other stuff.

Wow! You do have a lot to be thankful for. When I was younger, I used to play with all my cousins at my grandma's house on Thanksgiving. There are 26 of us. We are all grown up now, but we used to play all kinds of games together, and make a little bit of trouble. I'm thankful that I have a big family. I'm also thankful that I live in this country. There are a lot of good things happening here. I hope you have a good thanksgiving!

Hey Jake..

We dont have thanksgiving here in Australia. Maybe you can tell me why there is thanksgiving there in the USA? I hope you have a great holiday. Your Mum says that your a really good boy and very clever too! I guess that is something to be thankful for too.

Have a great day mate! (from a thankful friend in Aussieland)

Dear mr Phenix

what!  why dont you have thanksgiving?  the usa celbrates it because the pilgrims came to the usa and made friends with the indians.  i dont no if the pilgrims made it to where you live. they probably just passed it by because they were on their way to the usa. today we were talking about pilgrims in class.

dear miss kelly

i wish you have a good thanksgiving too!

(Dharma here...I swear, I'm not making this stuff up...this is all jake's work! ...the passed Australia by!!)

Jake,

Happy T-Day. My family is much smaller than yours, and very far away, but some friends here are putting a feast together. I do not know what you get to eat for T-Day, but one of my friends makes a real, proper turkey with cornbread stuffing; another is a vegetarian and brings this lentil stew which is delicious. They invited me to eat all the good food, so I am very thankful, like you, to have good friends.

Also, I am thankful to you for reminding me.

Well thankyou Jake for teaching me something today! Umm we werent discovered by pilgrims but by Captain Cook who went back to England and then the English came here with a boat load of convicts to put them here like being in a prison! We have Aboriginals here but they were never treated well by the English people. Maybe the pilgrims should have come here instead of passing us by!

Well I guess you have a lot of things to be thankful for and so do I .. so tell me Jake can I come over for thanksgiving??

Hello Jake. It is good that you have so many things to be thankful for. And freedom is one of the best things isnt it?

Enjoy your thanksgiving day.

(By the way, here in Vanuatu we dont celebrate thanksgiving either. Maybe because we're so close to Australia?)

Thank you. I've seen pictures of Henry and he's a very handsome dog. Maybe some day you can introduce Henry to my girls, Aji and Umji. They love to play.

Jake,

I really enjoyed your list. You sound like you are a very smart guy. My list of things to be thankful for is almost exactly the same. I am so thankful to your family for giving us a free country. I am thankful that you know the importance of a free country. I am thankful that you have such a wonderful mommy, too.

Eat lots and lots of good stuff tomorrow. Be thankful for that too. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Jake.

You have written a great post, Jake. Keep on writing and you will begin to love to express yourself. Others will learn from your experiences. Not everyone will always agree with you but that is how sharing helps to widen our views.

The pilgrims passed Australia by because they dont have turkeys there, they all eat weird birds like Ostriches and Kiwis and stuff.

Emu's Sabrina Emu's not ostriches and certainly not kiwis - ugh We like to beat them on the sporting field not eat them.

Great blog Jake you have a lot of things to be thankful for and you're right you're family is great especially your mum - who is much loved round these here parts. Happy Thanksgiving!

this is jake again.

i liked all of  what everyone said.  thank you for listening to my blog.

today was great!  i had a good lunch.  i ate some turkey, yams, corn, green beans, stuffing mashed potatos and gravy.  it was all very tasty.  my mom is a good cook.  she cooked all of the food.  she says that you are all of her friends and she is thankful for you.  i like that because you guys are nice.

i am also thankful for you because you are nice to me and you read my list about what i am thankful for.

my mom says that if i turn the c's on my report card into b's that she will sign me up to play pee wee football, so i am working extra hard now.  on my progress report i got only 1 c, 2 b's and 3 a's so that was an improvement.

i hope that all of you had a good thanksgiving.

love,

jake.

Is it true what I see on the tv - that you have marshmallows with your sweet potato?

Yep.  Today I made candies yams.  I mashed a can of yams up with a little butter, brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon...then i put them in a pyrex dish, threw some marshmallows on the top and baked them in the oven until the marshmallow were brown.  They were gooooo-oood!

SLC-y ...he ate all day today.  It started with breakfast (coco krispies) and then he snacked when he was helping me make lunch....then he had a hugle plate of food at lunch and came back for more...then dessert...then leftovers for supper, and now he's eating mashed potatoes and gravy.  That boy can EAT!  I'm glad, really...the medication he's on can decrease his appetite and he's not a 'husky' kid to being with.

Oh be so thankful, dharma. My son's ADHD medication destroys his appetite. He has lost 2 pounds since he began the medication 1 year ago. He is 8 years old and only weighs 51 pounds. I don't know how much longer he will be able to stay on the medication at this rate. He had an apple for Thanksgiving lunch. (Not to mention he is an incredibly picky eater; he throws up if we give him anything other than the 7 things on his list of "acceptable foods.")

That sounds really weird but I just asked my husband if we could try it he said "Can of yams" - We don't have yams and we don't get sweet potato in a can.

It certainly sounds interesting and it might be nice if we could get over the sweet potato as a dessert thing.

My favourite sweet potato recipe is potato bake either with cream and cheese or some vegetable stock and a little white wine - layers of potato, sweet potato and onion -- Yum!!

It sounds like you had a great day - Today my husband made me a fried egg and some toast and I had 5 pieces of bread with vegemite on them. There's talk about having roast chicken for dinner tonight.

Karen - I'm so jealous I LOVE potato and gravy!

Aww!  That poor little dude!  I was so worried that jake would lose his appetite.  He's only little as it is (neither Dave or are big)..I think he weighs 60-is lbs now and he's not very tall for an 8 year old.  I'm lucky though, he likes almost any kind of food...the only things he won't eat is sushi and cooked cabbage.

That's going to suck if you have to take him off the meds....your husband was telling me how bad he was before he got put on them.  Caught between a rock and a hard spot, huh?  I'm sorry....

Trina:  I'm jealous of what you had!  I haven't had any vegemite for months!!!  If you can't get canned yams, you can use raw sweet potatoes.  Just cook them and mash them like you would a regular potato.  if you're interested, I can send you the recipe for candied yams....
