Firefox 3 & Sites/Forums Compatibility

Firefox 3 & Sites/Forums Compatibility

Yesterday the news broke that Firefox 3 final would be released to the public on Tuesday, June 17th

With every new major version of Firefox, changes are made to how the browser renders pages, in an effort to get closer and closer to published standards.  Unfortunately, since the major web browsers all render pages slightly differently, custom stylesheets have to be built for each specific browser we support.  Since Firefox 3 will render pages differently than Firefox 2 did, this means we will need to update our stylesheets so Firefox 3 works properly with our web sites.

At the moment, we do not officially support Firefox 3 on WinCustomize, JoeUser, ImpulseDriven.net or any of our forums.  We will be adding support for the new browser version as quickly as we can, but we do not anticipate that we will be ready by the browser launch on Tuesday the 17th (we're kind of busy with something else right now).  If you use Firefox 3 with our sites in the meantime, you will still be able to use the sites well enough, there will just be formatting glitches where elements may not display properly on the page.  We know about these, we are working on them.

As we know about these issues, please do not post threads to the forums complaining that the site is broken with Firefox 3.  This post is everyone's official notice that we're aware of the problems and will be working to fix them.  Any posts complaining of issues will be moved to the Site Issues forum and locked.  Please do not clutter the forums with such posts.

Currently, we do not have a definite ETA on when Firefox 3 will be fully supported on our sites.  For now, please continue to use IE6, IE7 or Firefox 2 to browse our sites.

Things used to be a little hinky when the FF3 RCs first came out but the major bugs were quickly sorted out and browsing WC with FF3 is almost a pleasure now.

I look forward to seeing what else they've got up their sleeves.

Firefox 3 FTW! :) So far, I love it! WinCustomize renders without any noticeable errors for me.

the Download button on skins will disappear entirely after it has been visited

never seen that. And it sounds like you're the only one who has. Maybe you have issues of your own, and it's not Wincustomize. Try a fresh install of FF.

Frankly I'd say unless some major functionality is breaking in Firefox to not worry about it. Concentrate on not making WC2008 such an overly complex unmaintainable mess that it's a miracle it works in any browser - I have faith in you.

Been a Firefox dude for quite awhile and have had no issues worthy of mention. I've been patiently waiting for FF3 to go gold before trying it so I don't think I can wait any longer! :) Thanks for the heads up and I promise not to whine.  :d

Don't forget Opera, guys . Having said that : Opera 9.5 doesn't seem to give any problems .Besides , having worked as network manager I always advised folks to use just about any alternative browser ( not because IE is bad but because IE/outlook express is most targeted by viruses ) to IE .

This wasn't really supposed to be a "post-your-problems-here" kinda thread... especially about Opera.
I'm sure there'll be a time when Zoomba will take his hand off the button and posting such things will be ok again.

Add support for both Opera and Safari. Both major browsers. Birger :)

/me sends PixelPirate to his room without any supper...

Folks, this is a thread about Firefox 3 cosmetic issues.  Not a place to request different browser support.
