Weekly Poll: Desktop vs Laptop

Weekly Poll: Desktop vs Laptop

FIGHT!

https://www.wincustomize.com/webpoll.aspx

This week, a less controversial poll.  This one comes from Snidely Whiplash on IRC:

Do you primarily use a Desktop PC or a Laptop?

This question was inspired by the Show Your Computer Setup thread and the surprising number of laptops shown off.

Results will be posted on Tuesday (office is closed Monday).

Laptop..... Desktop...no.. laptop.... desktop?........both?   It's too controversial to answer !!

Used to use both.. Then the Mrs threw away my laptop.  It was missing a button and I had it sitting in the living room awaiting a new one to arrive in the mail, and apparently ignored the warning of "Get that thing out of the living room" one to many times.

Im now currently looking for the most expensive replacement possible.

Aww man I joined the controversy.  ;)

I have both. At home, I use the desktop most. I use it for all my graphics work, skinning, web design, etc. I use my laptop a few times a week...mainly if I want to go outside. I also take it whenever I travel, or when I am teaching.

I use the laptop for work ... and that's pretty much it .. just work.

At home, it's the desktop .. which is a much faster machine.

I prefer my desktops at home or work. :)

I have both. I'm on my 3rd laptop. The first one I used constantly, the second one on average 5 or 6 times a week and the latest I ONLY use on trips and haven't even synced since Christmas. My wife uses my laptop occasionally to do power point presentations, so it's not a total waste.

I think my phone(s) have kinda phased out the need for a laptop. I'm using a Pocket PC now but prior to that I had a Smartphone. Both sync with Outlook and download email, and have internet access. The PPC even has an "Office Suite" with MS Word and Excel.

Laptops aren't non-upgradeable, but yes they are more limited in terms of what you can upgrade. You can add a bigger/extra harddrive, more ram, should even be able to add a graphics card, but it is more specialized in regards to the laptop hardware and cost.
End of quote
i didn't say they were non-upgradeable...i just said they were limited to things lik the cpu, mem,HDD and optical drives oh and floppy drive (if it has one..but then again these days they are obsolete).you can also upgrade the cooliong system but that has a limit as well...
