Weekly Poll: Desktop vs Laptop

FIGHT!

https://www.wincustomize.com/webpoll.aspx

This week, a less controversial poll.  This one comes from Snidely Whiplash on IRC:

Do you primarily use a Desktop PC or a Laptop?

This question was inspired by the Show Your Computer Setup thread and the surprising number of laptops shown off.

Results will be posted on Tuesday (office is closed Monday).

Well sir, you would think so, but the way the last two polls were answered, I wouldn't put any money on this.

Nicely done Zubaz.  :CONGRAT:

For me my laptop is more practical to use because of mobility. I don't think I've used my desktop PC more that 4 times this last year.

I've got both and untill recently (last year) the laptop was pretty much #1. Since Nov 2007 tho, I've had a desktop with Vista pre-installed and I like it better :)

Desktop only. I don't own a laptop, nor do I want one ;)

I have a laptop, but use my desktop far more often. My wife uses the laptop more often...

My desktop PC at the office is my primary work horse.  I do 90% of my daily work on it.  The laptop beside me mostly handles IRC, email, testing when I'm in the office.  It's my main machine though whenever I travel or am away from the office.

At home, it's just a desktop PC.

Mostly desktop (since it has the 24" monitor, way better to work with), though I do have a laptop as well.

How coincidental.....today's the first time I've ever used a laptop.....my son gave me his 17" MacBook Pro to take for a spin as I'm away from home....very very nice......but would never replace my desktop....miss my big screen.......but still....has made it onto my wishlist....

desktop bigtime..desktops can always be upgraded to be ever more powerful..laptops are limited.the only thing good bout a laptop is it's portable.

/edit

to be off topic a tad from what micro$haft i mean microsoft says the SP1 for vista will be released tommorrow you can read about it here SP1 release date

I voted laptop since that is what I use 99% of the time right now since I'm in college. A laptop is far more useful in college than a desktop in my opinion. If I wasn't in college, I'd much rather build myself a gaming machine and just use it for everything including the gaming.

Laptops aren't non-upgradeable, but yes they are more limited in terms of what you can upgrade. You can add a bigger/extra harddrive, more ram, should even be able to add a graphics card, but it is more specialized in regards to the laptop hardware and cost.

Same here Butch. Laptop for work and remote access, Vista and XP desktops at home.

I have had both, but  I love the mobility of a Laptop.

I usually will use the newer machine. As my Desktop outclasses my Laptop right now, I use my desktop much more, but the three years before that, I used almost exclusively my laptop.

Maybe in a year or two, when I replace my laptop, I will go back to "notebooking" again. :)
