When Did You Join? How Did You Find Us?

Since we've been around for seven years, we've seen a lot of people come and go from the userlists.  As I've said, in that time we've seen several million folks stop by long enough to create an account with us.  In those years, the composition of the community has changed greatly.  A lot of the prominent faces around today weren't here back in 2001, and a lot of the folks from 2001 have since moved on to other things.

So while everyone knows the general story and history of WinCustomize, I'd like to hear a little bit more from all of you.  When did you join the site?  How did you find us?  What brought you to the world of skinning?  Share a bit of your history as it relates to WC with the rest of the community.

I found out about WC in July 2001 when my EX joined.  I joined in Jan 2002 because she wouldn't let me use her account anymore and told me to get my own.  To bad I did join then, my # would have been 15034. :)

I joined WC in October 2005 .. so I am still a relative newbie here ... I was recommended to get Object Desktop by the nice folks from my Home Site ..Desktop Sidebar ... as at the time I was a newbie and I wanted to find out what I could do about changing my desktop to match my sidebars ... I have learnt so much from the folks on here , from Zubaz to Po to 2of 3 and loads of other people and more recently all the guys and gals from the Troll Thumping Suite ..., and of course the DS forums ! Without the advice from everyone here and there , for which I will be extremely grateful , I would probably still be stuck on XP classic ... X-(  I have tentatively begun a WB and I have recently discovered Winstep ( Thanks so much for the fun ,Jorge! ) ~ so to me everytime I boot up I look forward to finding summat new ... BTW congrats on 7 years WC .. :CONGRAT:

I joined WC in January of 2002, but been using Object Desktop since 2000 (though the disk says 2001, I think its a replacement disk because my account says 2000) (so i guess I am an old one). Anyways... I don't remember how I cam across Stardock, but I was using StyleXP awhile there. I have always found an interest in skinning and wanted to learn to do it on my own, but I ended going in the networking end of the spectrum and never got around to learning how to skin. Though I hope to still one day do so. Anyways it has been a great community to be apart of. I think the skinning community is and will be one of the largest and longest lasting communities around that share a common goal yet still very close. Hey.. lookie here.. anyone remember what these looked like... I haven't bought software on disk for so long now. But anyways... amazingly enough I actually kept this  :)

Have been a member since May 2004 but had been visiting for a few months prior.

How did I find the place? Well I was wandering around the internet looking for things to cover up the Fischer Price look of XP and I tripped over the welcome mat outside. ;) Just as well, too, I found some great stuff inside and have never looked back. :)

As for WC, I've been here for a long time (i.e. since the first or second day the site opened), but I'm just a lurker, subscriber and general bandwidth hog ... :p

was browsing the web looking for desktop enhancement toys - one site was mentioned a trial of WB, went and looked at SD, decided to buy the disk (never had any trial version) and found my way from there to here.

I came over the first week WC went live, from Skinz.org.  When I stumbled on to Skinz.org I tried eFX before WindowBlinds. If some of you newer folk could have seen how WC was put together in the beginning...it was like moving into a new home still being built. But the guys got it going pretty fast.

I remember Windowblinds.net had it's own gallery. and Skinz.org had a skin browser which I think I still have on a CD somewhere. ;)

Oh well enough of the history. Long Live Thug Life! :HOT:

I started back in'98 as a wallpaper artist and quickly got into Litestep theming. I was one of the refugees from Skinz.org that came over when Skinz finally died. I was a Wizop here for quite a long time, and although I don't do that anymore I'm still very involved in Wincustomize and skinning and spend large parts of my day here. I still love it, and many people here feel like family to me. I was originally known as Mr.Mercury when DeviantArt first started, and also at Customize.org and Deskmod, but became BoXXi when I joined Skinz.org. B[]

I believe the date was around June, 2004. I came across WindowBlinds on some site...don't remember which one and thought I would try it out. I was tired of the same old Windows boring skins and wanted something with a little more kick to it. Voila, WindowBlinds was the answer. I joined Wincustomize and have enjoyed the best skinning site on the Web. Although I don't have the talent to make skins, I marvel at the talent that is displayed here at Wincustomize. There is a skin for every taste that you can think of.The variety of colors and themes is amazing to find in one place. Wincustomize is one of my favorite sites as I visit once or twice a day. After purchasing Object Desktop, my computer is full of the bells and whistles that I had never imagined could be possible. Thank you for this wonderful site, and thanks to the fabulous skinners that keep us coming back for more and more! :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT:

It started way back with windowblinds 1.0, joined the site in March of 01 and have never looked back. If I remember correctly I found windowblinds via an article on customization way back. This has been a great ride and looking forward to what's next. :CONGRAT:
