When Did You Join? How Did You Find Us?

Since we've been around for seven years, we've seen a lot of people come and go from the userlists.  As I've said, in that time we've seen several million folks stop by long enough to create an account with us.  In those years, the composition of the community has changed greatly.  A lot of the prominent faces around today weren't here back in 2001, and a lot of the folks from 2001 have since moved on to other things.

So while everyone knows the general story and history of WinCustomize, I'd like to hear a little bit more from all of you.  When did you join the site?  How did you find us?  What brought you to the world of skinning?  Share a bit of your history as it relates to WC with the rest of the community.

I've been around since the fall of 2004. Played with cursor's and icon's a bit before that and then after watching a computer show on cable that showed how to change the text on the start button I got hooked on "what else can I do". Found WB thru Google, joined, and haven't stopped enjoying or learning since!

Migrated on over from skinz.org - was very grateful that there was going to be a solid skinning site to go to.

I joined in 2002 to download skins, then I went walkabout for a while with life stuff. I only started visiting the forums last year when I made some icons for Object Dock and now I pop in most days;mostly to read but occasionally to post.  :)  I can't remember how I first heard about this place as my memory isn't what it used to be. :d

I really really really wanted to get rid of the green 'Start' button on the XP taskbar...it really bugged me that it had to be green..I had worked out how to change the text, put an image on it, bit just couldn't change the colour :SNIFF!: Google introduced me to Stardock and Wincustomize in March 2004 and I couldn't imagine laptop life without Stardock's products and Wincustomize's skins :CONGRAT:

Like most people, I happened across this place while searching for a way to change the boring look of Windows ... probably googled it  ;)

I found this place when visiting TweakXp.com...clicked on a link there for something called WindowBlinds and have been stuck here since on Sep 12, 2003. Didn't even bother trying any of the free stuff...I knew right away what I had found...so I dove right in and purchased ObjectDesktop...CursorXP Plus & Objectdock Plus and I have never regretted it. Then I got the skinning bug pretty much as soon as I installed Objectdock and went looking for backgrounds. The ones I saw were nice...but I didn't see anything to really match the skins I was using. I opened a folder...played with the codes to learn what they did and the rest is history with about 290 sets of docks backgrounds matching as many WindowBlind skins and counting.

I can honestly I call this place home. I spend more time here than anywhere else. ;)

For me it all started with hoverdesk and a few other smaller apps like beatnik. Some how, I really don't remember ('cuz of that old age thing) I stumbled upon WC in April 2001 (#1276) probably before that I was just stupid and didn't sign up. Ever since then, WC has been like a terminal disease for me and the kind masters here have taught me how to draw stick figures. I can now almost get the lines straight using a ruler!! My addiction has now progressed so it's like my morning coffee. Can't get my day started without a good sspellnig lesson from Zub!

several years ago, I was looking for some way to alter my windows gui. I was tired of the "themes" available for windows 98 and looking for something more professional looking and less buggy. I found nextstep and nextstart and tried them but found they were above my knowledge and I couldn't figure out how to make them work for me. Trying to get more information I hunted for a while , and found WC while hunting for a simpler skin for the product. Once here, I saw WB and fell in love with the product. I tried the shareware and it fit exactly what I was looking for, from there I was hooked and purchased the whole Object Desktop way back when you still got a CD mailed out! Though there are still parts of it that baffle me, I love the product and have been a loyal subscriber since. I think I go thru dt's every time the site goes down for maintenance or repair, and if there aren't new skins available I end up lurking in the forums. I can't help myself I am an Object Desktop addict!! Is there a therapy group for that? I'd gladly join! :d

Well, I joined back in October of 2002, but because it was soooo long ago, I don't remember why. Probably was looking for wallpapers, found Windowblinds, and stuck around. :)

I was a mod for the AOL configuration desk way back when under the screen name of PCC Ken and found this site through various posts and questions on customization and tweaking the good ole config file in that forum on AOL. I did some screen shots on inspiration from docx and SS Guko here under another name and always found myself looking for wallpaper so I decided to make some myself. Became a subscriber under the kenwas name in 2003. Still making walls.

I have been a member since Dec, 2001. I was turned on about this site from a friend. The artist and the creativity is what blows me away. Coming to WinCustomize is a daily, first thing to do. Thanks WinCustomize

I have been registered here '03, but lurked for about a year before that.  I originally "found" WinCustomize by downloading the trial for WindowBlinds and being referred here for skins.

My first adventure in skinning was with CursorXP, where I had a thing for making really cool drink themed cursors.  Since then I have tried my hand with widgets, WindowBlinds skins, icons, and who knows what else.

I think this is one of the best communities on the net, and I'm proud to be part of the great team.  :)

Wow, I'm a real new kid on the block. Joined Dec. 2007 and love it here. I went to WB after a sour experience with another software. It was really limited anyway. Want to thank all of the older members who give all of the great help to the less talented (me) among us. :)

I found the original site way back around the time Al Gore invented the internet and just had to join. I was MIA for a few years after that and when I came back I found that I had either forgotten my password or my account had been closed. Since the email addy I joined with was from 3 ISPs prior, I created a new account and added a 1 to my moniker.
I was drawn back by the release of DeskScapes and the Dream gallery. Once I raped and pillaged the gallery dry, I decided to start creating my own. Since WinCustomize was nice enough to let me download all that I had, which for some reason was well over the 500 mb that visitors are limited to, I decided to thank them by becoming a subscriber and giving back to the community. I've been hanging around ever since.

Living out in the boondocks, we didn't have internet service. I spent all my spare time playing pc games. When I moved into the city, jumped at the chance to get connected to this here inter-web thingy. When I did, one of my old(?) games "encouraged" me to register. I then found Stardock. As I browsed around I found this cool concept called skinning and followed another link. A couple of my favorite hobbies are drawing and tinkering with computers. I remember seeing my first color monitor and learning how to create lines and shapes, color them and make them move. (think Pong and Combat) When I seen skinning, I was just sure it was an ideal medium for my creativity. Unfortunately, I haven't able to figure it out. (yet) I joined in July '04 by way of purchasing OD. I have been visiting WC for much longer, having to clear my cache in order to continue downloading works from Elvee and Starone.

Poked around here back in 2001 most likely from skinz, then took leave of my senses for awhile and found my way back around late '04.

Didn't really get into or fully grasp the capabilities until a new computer came my way in '05.

Someday I even plan to contribute! ;)

I've been a Stardock customer since the original (Windows version of) ODNT back in 1999. WC says member since April 20, 2001 (mem. # 1122) - so I've been lurking here since the start, I think.

Just got here, by looking for something...anything...to get rid of the electric jellybean look of Windows XP.

Loving it. Bought ObjectDesktop and I'll be throwing more money at StarDock and Wincustomize once I get re-settled.
