Forum Update: New/Read Thread Icons Re-enabled

Forum Update: New/Read Thread Icons Re-enabled

Just like we promised, the thread icons indicating threads with new comments, or hot topics etc. are back in action!

The catch?  Every thread on the forum right now is showing as "New" to you.  Even threads you've read recently.  This is because we reenabled the feature and you have no cookie tracking the information yet.

If you want to clear all the "New" markers just click on the "Mark All Posts As Read" link at the bottom of the forums. This will remove the "New" icons from everything on the forums.  Only new threads, or threads with new posts from that point forward will show up as "New".

We've added a "Hot Thread" icon to point out threads that are much more active than others.  This should help you spot the more interesting and active threads on the forums.

And now that "New/Read Posts" can be crossed off the list... it's on to tackling other features!

Thank you for all you have done so far guys at Stardock! I look forward to the future enhancements! :)

I did have a question. Is there a plan to include more smileys in the future?

Good to see you!

The icons are cool  :D  but I am having the same problem as CarGuy1 as regards pop up ads in posts even though I am a subscriber.
I logged out and cleared cookies/cache etc. but the problem persists.
Here's an example:

Any ideas?  :NOTSURE:

The last unread post is still on the list to tackle.

One step at a time here folks.

Zoomba,
Have you been able to duplicate the problem that a few of us are having with the ads?

CarGuy,

Not yet.  None of the machines I have at the office are seeing those ads in the forums(logged in or logged out) but I do see them on the rest of the site when I log out (as it should be).  When andrew gets in, I'll ask him to look into it.

No worries. :)

Option?? That's a standard, default, built-in feature of every forum software there is, and if it isn't included, it's either a bug or an oversight. What good is reading through tons and tons of replies if we ourselves have to keep track of the last one we read? The forum should do that already.

Sorry there sweetcheeks ( ;) :D), but automatically shooting you to the last reply in a thread is not something every forum system on the planet does. Every forum system on the planet has a *link* to take you to the last reply in a thread, and *a few* even do the last reply you read. The old system did not work correctly (and was severely annoying), and we're not enabling anything remotely similar until it works properly.

Fact is, everyone got used to a broken system, and now that the broken has been taken out it's left them in confusion lol. Everyone keeps asking 'when will feature x be put back in? can we have feature x?' We've answered these questions so many times over the last two weeks that it's begun to melt my brain. Give the search function of the forums a go and you'll probably find your answer.

Not trying to be mean or a scoundrel but every time we post updates about the forums we get a flood of the same replies. We're only human and can only work so fast. If you would like to open a discussion for other members about new features or features that you really miss that didnt make the cut for the update, please start a new post. Future posts about forum updates will be heavily moderated to remove replies for feature requests and questions about when features are returning or are going to be implemented.

I think most will agree that the last post feature was probably the single most useful function on the Forum, I do understand things take time and that Rome wasn't built in a day but for me, it would be sorely missed if not re-implemented. I'd even settle for last page read.. It's the starting at page 1 over and over that is bothersome.

Keep up the good work y'all. Its definately faster.  :CONGRAT:

I believe they're talking about the last reply you got to reading... not the absolute last reply made to the thread.
So when you visit the thread again, you read from where you left off, not re-read from the beginning again.

Exactly. Every other forum I belong to does this automatically. :)

Log out, clear your cookies/cache and log back in. There shouldn't be any ads. I can't see them on my subscribed account.

I am also getting underlined words in forum with adverts hovering in my face while logged in.
But, new forum format is much better otherwise.

Examine it for what exactly?  It's the behavior we had before.

Zabaz is right. When you came to the WC forum and clicked on a thread the site dropped you off where you last left off.

I don't have the patience to list those sites Andrew. Besides you would have to become a member of each of them. :NOTSURE:
