2008-01-22_1407For years, power users have been customizing their Windows desktop by applying skins, themes, icon packages, wallpapers, widgets, etc. 

To the new user, the number of steps in order to achieve a completely new desktop has often discouraged them from getting into it.  How do they get their normal desktop back if they want? What programs are free and what programs aren't? Do I have the latest versions of the various programs?

The answer for most users to those questions has been Stardock's popular desktop enhancement utility suite, Object Desktop.

But now, there's an alternative choice for users who want to apply a particular theme they see and like without having to worry about the software at all.  It's called MyColors.

MyColors allows users to purchase individual themes. The themes themselves contain information as to what software they need to run and MyColors automatically provides the user with the appropriate versions of the software they need to use it.

To ensure there are enough themes of interest to users, Stardock has teamed up with the NHL, the NCAA, NBA, GM, Ford, and many others to create themes for everything ranging from the Corvette Desktop to the Boston Celtics. In addition, dozens of totally original themes have been created as well and more hundreds more are on the way (there's some big announcements coming up).

Later this year, MyColors is expected to be pre-loaded on several major OEM PCs (though Stardock cannot publicly disclose who they are yet).

To celebrate the official launch of MyColors 2008, Stardock is providing a free theme on the MyColors website so that users can try MyColors for themselves. It is compatible with WindowBlinds and Object Desktop.

Looks like it is going to be a nice alternative.

Question, in the future when MyColors is fully in gear, will ThemeManager still be able to handle MyColors themes?

Regarding MapleLeafs - Jason, we had an issue that crept up with the weather gadget for all Canadian NHL teams.  We are currently working on resolving this issue.  I apologize for the inconvenience.  However, since you have paid for the product already, you will be able to get it once it is back up again.   Again, I apologize.

Also as a note, when you go to validate your serial for MyColors, you must use the email address you purchased the theme with, not your stardock.net account.

Some of my themes are not showing up in My Colors.What do I do?

Click on "Add Registration" enter your email address you bought the theme with, and the serial.  Once it's validated, it should show up in MyColors.  If you have more questions, be sure to check out https://www.stardock.com/products/mycolors/faq.asp.

The theme you have with WindowBlinds 6 is a different file than that for MyColors, so you should not lose the WB6 one.

That's what I have been doing ....but this keeps popping up...There was and error validating your registration information,please try again.This happens on every theme I have tried.I have purchased at least 5 of My Colors and can't use any of them.

i entered the serial number for the free one BUT,

MyColors will replace Theme Manager for applying Suites (at least the ones made by Stardock).  There will be special discounts, free themes and options made available to Object Desktop users through MyColors over the course of the year.

Cool. I have to say that this looks like a pretty snazzy replacement for Theme Manager. I had to shut it down and restart it for it to recognize my existing themes, but once I did that, no problems. :)

I uninstalled for now because whenever I tried to apply a Non-Stardock theme. I get a Object Desktop nag screen and I have ODNT.

its a good idea for someone who doesnt have odnt but i wouldnt trade my odnt for anything, and doubt i would purchase this product seperately even for a nifty new theme, but if my kids or nieces want something special I will probably send them in that direction.

Just attempted to activate it, it's a no go as per comments above

EDIT: lmao.. now uninstallg the my colors software has frozen the add/remove,it seems it ain't going without a fight,at least the start button still works,saves having to use the emergency shutoff button.

I too have an OD subscription, so using my colors really isn't going to benefit me very much because i already have the software foundation. However, there ARE some themes that i would like to have--most of which are not yet available. So will there be any way to perhaps download the themes as master themes. I don't mind paying for the theme, I just don't need all the additional software AND I'd still like to be able to do custom customizations by combining various elements in order to create my own unique look.

Ok, I've downloaded it, installed it, copied the Serial from the clipboard which was sent via mail to me... what a surprise... the serial is already in use and... the fullversion is available for subscribers and buyers of Object Desktop. I am a owner of Object Desktop - so why do I have those problems? Should I now buy again a second version of Object Desktop? You're kidding me, aren't you?

Bit gutted that I bought Quest for MyColors. Ah well. What is more annoying is nothing will activate on this version. Neither Quest nor Winter Wonderland will activate for me :(

In a way it is a bit of a shame it is replacing Theme Manager for OD Subscribers.

In all new releases there will be some issues to attend to. We apologize for any inconvenience that may be occurring. I am reading the problems listed here and forwarding them on. However if you should be having issues with MyColors please contact us at [email protected]. What we will need most in that info:

Name
Email
Serial Number (if you are having trouble with the activation)
Product (theme)

The support email is the best way to get your issue resolved as quickly as possible. We will be attending very carefully to them all morning and afternoon. Should you see more people posting troubles they are having in other areas please encourage them to do the same for the fastest response. We will still be assisting the forums of course but our attention will be focused on the email support tickets. The more information we get the quicker we can resolve any troubles.

Those that were having serial validation issues.  Please try again.  We came in to the office this morning to find that we were having some issues with our servers thus affecting serial validation for all our products.

For those trying to validate Canadian NHL Themes, please continue to wait.  I'll try to post here when it does become available again.  Thanks, and our apologies to you!

Magic sells as a Premium Theme for $9.95 and as MyColors theme for $19.95. Gyre is available as a MyColors theme for $19.95 yet not as a Premium Theme, is Gyre (and future themes)going to be available as a Premium Theme for $9.95?

There are problems with NBA themes. I tried to update and after update through Mycolors wb skin (Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls) is corrupted, more exactly all .bmp files are corrupted.
