2008-01-22_1407For years, power users have been customizing their Windows desktop by applying skins, themes, icon packages, wallpapers, widgets, etc. 

To the new user, the number of steps in order to achieve a completely new desktop has often discouraged them from getting into it.  How do they get their normal desktop back if they want? What programs are free and what programs aren't? Do I have the latest versions of the various programs?

The answer for most users to those questions has been Stardock's popular desktop enhancement utility suite, Object Desktop.

But now, there's an alternative choice for users who want to apply a particular theme they see and like without having to worry about the software at all.  It's called MyColors.

MyColors allows users to purchase individual themes. The themes themselves contain information as to what software they need to run and MyColors automatically provides the user with the appropriate versions of the software they need to use it.

To ensure there are enough themes of interest to users, Stardock has teamed up with the NHL, the NCAA, NBA, GM, Ford, and many others to create themes for everything ranging from the Corvette Desktop to the Boston Celtics. In addition, dozens of totally original themes have been created as well and more hundreds more are on the way (there's some big announcements coming up).

Later this year, MyColors is expected to be pre-loaded on several major OEM PCs (though Stardock cannot publicly disclose who they are yet).

To celebrate the official launch of MyColors 2008, Stardock is providing a free theme on the MyColors website so that users can try MyColors for themselves. It is compatible with WindowBlinds and Object Desktop.

I got my Maple Leafs theme downloaded now, and its activated ok however everything except the Window blinds skin is being applied. What gives? The same happens with quest.

Never mind, I redownloaded My Colors through the small installer and all is well.

I changed my zip code to my california city zip code and all is well.

What do you mean through the small installer?  We only have 1 MyColors installer.

I refer to MyColors_Setup.exe as a small installer because of its filesize :)

Anyway heres the problem. WBVista somehow gone missing, so reinstalling the app fixed the issue.

Moletai: Do you have WindowBlinds installed?

If so make sure your WB version is 6.02.  Older versions will not work correctly.

Also which OS are you on?

That's the installer you should be using when applying MyColors themes.

In response to Neil's post... If you have WB installed, you need to make sure you have the most recent update of WB in order for MyColors 2008 and WB to play nicely with each other.

My colors is handy, as it basically is a cooler looking type of theme manager.


MyColors will replace Theme Manager for applying Suites

Will it eventually allow for saving of themes like TM does to build the themes? Or will theme manager still be around for us to make our own themes ?

Just wanted to thank Travis G at Stardock Support for super fast turnaround not to mention super quick email responses. I am pleased how Stardock is professionally handling this situation.

My check is in the mail to you guys next month for another NHL Theme :)

Is there an issue with this version messing up OD usage? Last time I tried to install MyColors software it totally messed up my OD software to the point where it had to be uninstalled and reinstalled.

What tool bar icons?  On the website?  On the MyColors Theme Manager?  On a particular theme?  If it's a website, what browser, and what's the url?  If it's a theme what theme?  What OS are you using?

Moletai - First thing to check now is to make sure that when you're in the MyColors Theme Manager, that Chicago Bulls, and Boston Celtics do not say "status: update available"  under their theme name.  If it does, then grab the updates and try applying again.  If you still have issues, please email [email protected] so they can handle your situation specificially.  I'm running XP sp2 also, and do not have any issues applying the Bulls or Celtics themes.

/me goes to disinfect her monitor for putting non-Detroit based themes on it. ;)  :D

I really think that an Oklahoma Sooners(NCAA Football) theme would be really cool. I mean really you have the pathetic Oklahoma Cowboys there....Please try to get the Sooners on there. I know plenty of people that I could get it sold to.

I have purchased the MyColors University of Louisville Desktop, but I don't want to install MyColors software though it is one hell of a great software just because I already have OD installed. Is there a way they can just send me the files in the format they would send other premium theme.

There are premium themes here that were transfered over to Mycolors site so people can purchase them as mycolors themes - People who don't have Stardock softwares installed already. Why can't they do the same for us if we see something we like in the mycolors site. Since we already have all the needed softwares to run the skins, why not make them available on wincustomize store as well at our regular price since I should not pay again for software I already paid for.


I still want MyColors University of Louisville Desktop without it being in Mycolors standard. Who should I contact about this?

Darken... where are you seeing those requirements?  Elsius Saint is correct that Louisville theme is showing on the site as not vista ready yet, and the system requirements does not show Vista (32 bit).

Elsius Saint, we are in the process of updating all our non-vista themes to be vista ready.  So keep a look out for it!

Automotive and some of the NCAA themes are being converted still to the 2008 format.
If you have Object Desktop, MyColors isn't quite as compelling since you have the software. But if you don't, it's a pretty big deal.

But some of those themes are really sweet. I've purchased Quest and Gyre, but is there anyway to get just the theme without having to use the MyColors software? I'd still be willing to pay.

Whoa... I just noticed that I don't have the toolbar icons section and the animations section. Are they supposed to be there?
