Game crashes consistently within 30 seconds of starting.

Hi,
I'm new to the community but I have a serious issue that I need help resolving. I just purchased GalCiv2 Gold Edition today but, alas, I cannot play because the game crashes to my desktop with Windows telling me that it simply "stopped working". I will post my debug.err file for your review. I have read the other threads that I could find about game crashes and none of the solutions offered therein fixed the problem. Please help!

(Just FYI, I am running 2 Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT's in SLI...didn't see that in the debug)

Here's my debug.err:

OK, I replicated the crash, in the first chapter, and here's the error log, from that session. If it looks OK

Shutting it down with taskman isn't a crash--the game responded to the quit command and exited normally, as the last few lines show.

There are at least three different things going on in this thread, which need to be understood; they're not all the same.

1) GeForce 8x00 users experiencing buffer-flip crashes or freezes at a blank screen in the latest drivers. This specific issue seems isolated to the 8400-8600 cards only, and is (to our knowledge) the fault of a internal driver issue. If that's the case, there's not much that can be done aside from waiting for nVidia to fix it.

2) A user of a brand new GeForce 7x00 reporting mysterious full-system crashes/locks with corrupted graphics. Likely hardware fault.

3) PTTG, reporting problems with a GeForce 8600, but only posting debugs from an intel integrated system. Please make sure you're correct about your system's hardware and that you're getting the debug from the right one.

Some users have reported that disabling some of the graphic features in the options has helped, but it's been hit-and-miss.

PTTG,

WELL, Moosetek13, I'm surprised that 12 other people wanted "moosetek", but you'd be Moosetek1 in my books if you could fix this problem for me.

Actually, 13 is my 'lucky' number.

And that debug is not from a crashed session, since - Debug Message: Main Shell terminating normally ???
That does not happen unless you close the game in a normal fashion.

You say...
"I also have a GT8600 equivalent chipset"
Yet the debug reports your video chipset as:
Card Name: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
What's up with that?
No way is the 965 chipset video on par with an Nvidia 8600GT.
Simply - no way.
Do some research and check it for yourself. What are the specs of the 8600GT compared to the specs of the 965?

And, in fact, every debug you have submitted has been from a game that has terminated normally.
What's up with THAT!???

If you want help with a crashing issue, at least give accurate information.
!!!

One thing I will mention is:

Laptops sometimes overheat more when on AC power than when on battery power, because the CPU is throttled down when on battery.
I have seen this first hand.
When on AC, it overheats much faster than when on battery - because on battery the CPU is running at a slower pace (and hence, generates less heat).

kickingbottom, I disabled ALL of the troubleshooting options in the menu and it fixed my crash. I can play through complete games now. Bear in mind, the visual experience leaves much to be desired, but I still enjoy playing ;) I'll have to try that AMD X2 64 optimizer update and see how it works.
