WindowBlinds 6 specific skins

How to tell what's been optimized

Skins (aka visual styles) designed specifically for WindowBlinds 6 are displayed with a special WindowBlinds 6 icon in the gallery. When a skinner submits a skni, they can now choose 2 new options: Optimized for WindowBlinds 6 and Supports Windows Vista.

As an example, the first WindowBlinds 6 skin from Stardock Design has been uploaded into the gallery and can be found here.

Enjoy!

So little time, so much of it wasted by those you who will want it back and later realize that no matter what they do you can't turn back the hands of time.

Was the original post worth all of this?

It's actually a relevant question being asked by people who do make skins and contribute to the site on a regular basis. I don't think getting a little clarification, not just for the folks who put in their time and effort and then share the results, but also for us who do not skin WB, yet, but use Vista, is to much to ask for. Turning this into an imagined assault on Stardock is both inappropriate and completely unnecessary. I'm pretty sure most people asking for clarification in this thread are very supportive of Stardock but have never struck me as lemmings. My initial response to that type of reaction is to wonder why they are being so defensive to begin with. I come to this site for information, and of course skins, and I am offended when anyone tries to limit or imply irresponsibility about what and who can be asked a question.

This thread is not for arguments between users.

If this continues I will be forced to hand out site holidays, so I would suggest everyone takes some time away from their computers.

I have cleaned up the thread.

We'll be putting up specifics shortly but:

Windows Vista supported skins mean ones that have been tested on Windows Vista and work fine (i.e. the Start menu on Vista works without problems and so forth).

WindowBlinds 6 skins would be ones that skin the IE7  controls and the Vista explorer controls (at a minimum) and ideally support explorer backgrounds and advanced animations.

The big deal is that some skinners might want that badge. Knowing how to design a skin to get it is critical.

I don't want to be a smart alek here but this didn't strike us at being very complicated. First, Stardock doesn't award the badgets. As the original post indicates, when a skinner submits a skin, THEY choose the checkboxes. One presumes that a skinner knows whether the skin uses WindowBlinds 6 features or not or whether it works on Windows Vista or not. But we will provide more details for users who are unsure.

Can a skin for XP only be considered optimized for WB6?

and thanks in advance for any clarification. As I understand it now, Skinners will be updating their skins just to include the badge.

I appreciate the feedback but so that I am clear in my questioning..and I realize we choose to "badge" the skin..so...

I take, lets say.. ViennaXP..Stargate SG1(XP) I need to know exactly what needs updated.. in XP.. to warrant a WB6 badge?

I undertand there is a wealth of upadating and extra skinning in Vista, my question pertains strictly to XP.

Also as far as IE7 goes can any of it be skinned in XP? and taking into account you can't run both browsers how is one to skin them both? If IE7 on XP isn't skinned, is it a WB6 skin?

Lastly, certifying your own skin seems like it may have it's pitfalls. There are already skins with badges for vista that aren't fully skinned, Perhaps a minimum requirement could be initiated to earn a badge. It wouldn't take long to run through a skin to check it for completeness during moderation and would give some credibility to badging a skin.

I'm not a WB skinner, but somebody should let them know what exactly are the things that need to be done, vStyler has asked in a few threads here what the skinners need to do, and I would want to know if I was creating WB's also.

I haven't seen any list of things that are required, and I'd be frustrated as hell as he and others are to know.

Five reasons computers must be female...
5.- No one but their creator understands their internal logic.

4.- Even your smallest mistakes are immediately committed to memory for future reference.

3.- The native language used to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.

2.- The message, "Bad command or filename", is about as informative as "if you don't know why I'm mad at you, then I'm certainly not going to tell you".

1.- As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
