What happened to dreamscene final release?

Has MS given up on releasing any updates to dreamscene?  It's been over 6 months since vista release.

I know!!! they decided that there was no way to fix the problems, so they are going to pretend like the one 6 months ago was the final release.

Well, I'm getting tired of Dream crashes and having to restart it all the time and am migrating back to jusy regular pictures till they fix this.

Way too much CPU usage with this 'video desktop', constantly having to restart dreams, even the dynamic dreams crash, I've already reverted back to "still shots" for my desktop. When bill gates decides to give us something better, I'll look at using dreamscene again.

I am just really disapointed with the whole windows ultimate concept. I think one of the largest reasons people got it is for the cool back ground abilities of dream sceen. So far, so long after, not having a final version, i mean, what did we spend our money on?? half of a background program and texas hold em?

I pretty much agree with you travlingtexanman, I don't think the Ultimate was worth the money.... I never used the Dreamscene or unfornatually Dreamscapes anymore.
I thought I would really like it , but NO FIREWORKS...>.

Completely agree with the posts above. The windows ultimate web page hasn't seen any updates for months - at the very least the staff there could use the blog on the site to let us know things are still going (that is, if the staff is even still there... which I am beginning to believe is a real possibility)

According to Ultimate : The Extras-Situation is disappointing, but still there is more to Ultimate than dreamscenes and the extras.

I have to agree with Carl.  IF you bought Ultimate for the animated walls and that's all you've used . . you are missing something.

The Windows Ultimate Extras team states that since so many people have been downloading the preview they are trying to work harder to finish and deliver the final realease version of Windows DreamScene. I believe that the team will have the final version out within a few months. You can check out their official website at windowsultimate.com

The latest post was three months ago.

Well I don't think they would stop trying to make something like that... If people are mainly purchasing Ultimate don't you think they're going to deliver what the people probably most likely bought it for... Otherwise the customers probably wouldn't trust Microsoft as much... IDK just a thought.....

This link will open up a bunch of people's eyes about Ultimate Extras and Dreamscene. For those who don't want to read it all, The Extras team has been disbanded (if it ever existed) and Dreamscene's biggest problem is that it never worked right with right-to-left language based systems and its likely a problem that they can't fix, thus it will be in a perpetual beta

I wonder if we have a case to either demand an option for downgrade for all users, or to even sue microsfot for false advertising, or not forfilling a contract or something. I feel like i have been jiped. What is the extra 130 dollars getting me. Cool back grounds, bit locker, and a few desk top games? i mean, honistly, can any one say that is a fair trade.

I have a feeling that Microsoft may release the final release of DreamScene on a holiday. An upcoming holiday for America is July 4th... If they released the preview version on Valentines Day then they might realease the final within the upcoming holidays... I don't about all of the "behind the scenes" that are going on..... But I don't think Microsoft would want to have so many people angry about something like this and press charges on them... Just an idea..... Tell me what you think.

Why would Microsoft care? They have a monopoly. We gave it to them and this is just another example of the result.

Well like I said I don't know about all of the behind the scenes... But I still trust them. If it takes more than a year to release this final version then there is obviously something wrong... There isn't much we can do about this... And Microsoft never promised that this would be an extra in the first place they tried or they're trying... Call them up if you have questions about when the final release will come out... Try to get some information... Other than that I don't really know..... I trust Microsoft and I have been using there products since 2001 and they never let me down before... So we'll have to wait and see. If you got anything lay it on the table.

OMG... there's always at least one in every crowd isn't there. Nice contribution to the topic.

Back on topic...

I haven't had many problems with this since I've upgraded my system and can now run Vista with fantastic performance and ratings. (of course, that has only been for a week now, so time will tell the tale)
The only dream that I run is Stardock's Blissful Dream too.

OMG...so YOUR contribution to the topic, which was about people bitching about MS not following through on DreamScene or Ultimate Extras, is to tell us "upgrade your system like me and you'll be happy!"...ahem.

Come back when you've been running Vista for almost a year (beta through release) and see if you haven't joined us.

How hard can it be to get a final release of dreamscene out? Well, then again, maybe very hard since the current version crashes if you blink too fast. I think the team that developed dreamscene may have been cut. I think I'll go back to static pictures for a while. I'm getting tired of having to reset dreamscene all the time after it "stops working"

xgman: You should not have problems like that with dynamic (dll based) dreams.  An example of this is the ovals deskscape.

You should just stop worrying about DreamScene... If it comes out it comes out... If it doesn't oh well Microsoft never made a promise that it would have a final version of DreamScene now did they? If you got any proof they did let me know. I want the site you got it from... And don't believe ever thing you hear online either...

Why don't you try and make DreamScene from scratch so it is compatible with all Windows Vista Ultimate computers?

for who ever it was that said "If it doesn't oh well Microsoft never made a promise that it would have a final version of DreamScene now did they" i would like to point out this site. As far as i know, it is still run by microsoft.

the important part is in the third paragraph "The fine print: We want to repeat that the final release is still to come. In Windows Update, this pre-release version is called Windows DreamScene Preview to highlight that this is not the final release."

travlingtexanman,

Well said, the problem I have is unlocking or coming out of sleep mode, some scenes don't come back and crash. I'm back to static on my laptop and dreamscene runs fine on my home system since it doesn't sleep.

It would be nice if Microsoft's team would actually post something, heck just say hi, we are still here working, be patient, something is better than nothing.
