So pretty, I want that SKS!

To StarDock, as a whole and to all the developers... this looks to be exciting. Thanks for the hard work, can wait to play around with it.

Some of it looks really exciting!I hope SKS will still have a fairly normal advanced mode...the Vista like dumbing down has me and a few other skinners concerned.Looking forward to giving it a go.WB6 sounds great.

Any indication of what the difference between the two levels of Object Desktop will be? Looks great overall.

Million dollar question, I think we'd all like to know. So far all that stuff looks awesome, can't wait to get my hands on it.

Instead of users downloading Stardock Central and then installing the various programs willy nilly, users will instead download Object Desktop 2008 which will have the core parts of Object Desktop and include Stardock Central to allow for updating.

Sounds like a great idea, but it also sounds like a huge download. Please don't forget some of us are stuck with dialup.

The new SKS looks very nice.

SHINY LOGO!

The new SKS, SDC and WB look great.

It all looks and sounds great. The SKS looks like it's set up for both XP and Vista. Good idea.

I just hope they have the updating right. Instead of downloading the whole package, every single time with skins and all, you just download the update. I don't see it happening but we'll see.

I agree that it's a bad idea about downloading core components. What if you don't use one or more of them. You'll have to wait the extra time for it to download, so you can uninstall them.
Have to take the good with the bad I guess. I have mixed feeling about it.

I do have a few questions but over the years, there has been a track record, not one of my questions have ever been answered. So I'll just wait and see and keep my fingers crossed.

I.R. Brainiac: Is there anything in particular that you are worried the new SKS will not let you do?

Z71: Yes it supports both XP and Vista skins and makes it clear which sections are for both and which are specific to those OSes.

Hard to tell from screenshots...but it looks like the sections you are working on are not shown in place in relationship to the rest of the skin...currently SKS center window attempts to show the elements in place(as opposed to sitting on a plain white background like in the screenshotts)

Till we get a chance to use it we really cant say,but it looks styled after Vistas personalize dialog and me personally I hated what MS did to the usability and configurability of Vista.(tree navigation in the start menu...aaaaaarrgh!)

I'm sure there is lots we are not seeing so I'm not too worried yet...

WOW! Just WOW!

This stuff all sounds quite cool

Not sure how much attention you're planning on giving to the small players, but as someone who gets a lot of use out of Stardock virtual desktops, I wouldn't mind seeing a version that looks good on a transparent taskbar (picks up the transparency and any blur/special effect)

Looking forward to some goodies!

I would like to add my vote to getting an answer as to what will be compatible with Vista 64 bit versions. I never see anything about that other than it's a pain to develop for. In particular, I would like to know what the plans for Windows Blinds and Desktop X are in relation to Vista 64 Bit. Is Windows Blinds 6 and Desktop X 4 compatible with V-64? Every thing being developed and the new direction of Object Desktop looks great, but as a long time subscriber to everything StarDock, I find the lack of information about what's happening with the two applications that I consider the main modules of OD, and not being able to use either one, somewhat confusing and is starting to get frustrating. A simple yes we are working on those applications for V-64 or no we can not support them would be great. At least then I would know what my options are.

I like this! It will be interesting to see what a good skinners imagination can do with it.
I need more experience before I can consider myself a halfway decent skinner. Perhaps a more user friendly SKS is just what the doctor ordered. Big to Stardock staff. Keep up the good work.

I'm confused about upgrading. I just bought Object Desktop in February of this year, along with what seems like a lot of other options. Will I have to pay yet more to get this upgrade?
No, you only have to pay to renew (optional, programs will still work but no updates) when the subscription runs out (after a year). You'll get all the 2008 stuff as long as it comes out during your active subscription. If you got your sub within a year of the release of ODNT 2008 you'll get the upgrade to the Ultimate version free.

It looks great. And i love the idea of getting the whole package. That`s actually what i expected it to be when i ordered my first Object Desktop subscription.
I like the new skin studio, and also the fact that its gonna be more task orientated.

I tough hope the new IconX eats less RAM. I think it uses to much compared what you get out of it. Just nicer Desktop Icons. So i mostly dont use it, and use WindowsFX or Icon Packager to get big Icons.
Anyhow I cant wait to get OD 2008.
Any infos on the timeline?
