yrag ....Jafo and ZAP are arguing again...

Yrag.... I can't get on the net via IE7 [or Opera] unless I shut ZAPro down...which, when you think about it is kinda pointless.

SDC/IRC works, though, it seems...as does outlook.....

Do I need to buy another computer?

Have I broken this one too?...

I'm afraid we're going to have to revoke your computer license, as you keep breaking them.

Maybe you should switch to Vista's Firewall?

Maybe you should switch to Vista's Firewall?

Yes...that'll work....just as soon as I screw it into XP ....

Seems IE7 and Opera don't want to play....so I'm here in SDC instead.

Gotta be some dopey permission that was fubared somewhere...

Jafo,

I thought you had Vista. Sorry.

AS a temporary solution, you could use the XP firewall while you either wipe the ZA settings or go through one by one. Is it only IE7 and Opera?

IE7 nogo

Opera nogo

Firefox nogo

SDC's browser OK

Mailwasher/ZA/Bitdefender/Ad Aware/Outlook [and probably every other bloody thing] OK

Shall try VMWare while I'm at it....

Oh, this is cute....am typing from an XP VMWare ......in IE6 ....no dramas.

Clearly VMWare has OK permissions through ZAP....but IExplode, etc on the Host does not.

Good one.

friggin' computers.

oye.....

Try the easy way first:

Delete the program entries that aren't working in Program Control/ Programs. In Privacy/ Main, turn off Cookie Control, Ad Blocking and Mobile Code. Now try them.

Hard way....nuke it:

1. Boot your computer into the Safe Mode.
2. Browse to the c:\windows\internet logs folder.
3. Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files in the folder.
4. Reboot into the normal mode.

You will lose all your custom settings.

All better now?

Oh crikey, he's ******* useless. Just sell the pc and take up crocheting, you'll feel a greater sense of satisfaction (so I'm told).

ZAP can be weird sometimes. Last week mine was blocking IRC, this week it isn't

Isn't that the little old ladies game with the mallet and a funny white ball they gotta hit through hoops??

Might be orright over there in the Old Dart, but here in Oz we play a real man's game - cricket.

Is that what's meant by being 'crochety'?

yrag ....that worked....now the question is...why had that stopped access for IE/Opera/Firefox....but not for SDC and VMWare?

....and...is there something else that needs to be adressed/changed...to make it function more 'normally'?...

Is there a 'component' in 'program control' that needs access/permissions changed maybe?

Note...this is nothing I've done [I blame my parents...for breeding] ...other than getting the ZA update last week....[stopped my exile button working - since resolved], the only thing since was to fire up Messenger....hadn't logged in in ages.

maybe you didnt pay zonealarm enough money, after all it is the 'pro' version

You want to know everything......

Something got borked in the Privacy settings (it happens....mostly to you though).

In the Privacy settings: Cookie Control: Allow all except Third Party and Private Header. Ad Blocking: Block only Pop ups and Skyscraper. Mobile Code is always OFF.

You should have no further problems...... so forget about getting a new computer. I've told you on more then one occasion that I think it's grossly unfair to subject a perfectly good machine to the sad and tragic future it will endure while in your possession....

I need both 'sliders' to be 'off'.

Blocking these...any one of them and I can't get IE to load a page...

Hummmmm.....you may have whacked the rdb file. We'll get back to that.......

What do you have the Internet Zone, Trusted Zone and Program Control sliders set at? This is 7.0.337...yes?

Yes...7.0.337...

I have to have both cookie and ad blocking sliders to 'off'...otherwise it's no-go...

Set Smart to Auto. Other then that, the others are fine (excluding the Privacy slider issue). Sounds like your machine isn't talking to itself. Look in Anti-Spyware/ Site Blocking and see if 127.0.0.1 is being blocked.

Note...I can browse in SDC without this as an issue...ZAP's settings didn't stop SDC...only the other 3 browsers...

Nothing in there...
