Saying See Ya Later...(as in I need a break)

For The Time Being...

Well...I'm sorry to report that last Wednesday morning I suffered a stroke while out working. As you can imagine this is having a dramatic effect on my everyday life at the moment, so my activity here at WinCustomize has been put somewhat on hold for the time being till I can get things sorted out. I just now returned home from the hospital, but I suspect I will be returning at some time since my whole left side is completely numb. So far all the tests that have been done have yielded no definite answers as to what happened or what to expect in the days to come. As it stands now I can get up and walk around for the most part...but like I said...my whole left side is completely numb...so I'm still not out of the woods.

And not having health care doesn't help. It's amazing living in a country with such advances in medicine and yet you have no idea if you will get the help you need unless you can afford it.

Anyway, for anyone interested I will report in as to my progress when I can.

Have a Great Day People!

If there's anything we can do, please let us know!

May I suggest free ice cream, rides on your boat, and a puppy?

Man, I saw the title on my desktop, via scrolling Yahoo RSS widget just now...it just said: Saying See Ya Later...
My first thought was "aw, shit, who can that be?!"
Find out it's you.
...
O.K., so, whatever, you. are. not. leaving.
I'm calling bullshit on the whole thing.
Do what you've gotta do. Rest. Heal. JuJu, acupuncture, crystals, sinsemilla, vacation to Amsterdam to sit in a cafe and back, I dunno...google "brain food", for all I know...
First I.R, now you. C'mon guys, get well, o.k?
I'm just pissed. I'll get over it.

Good friend of mine was teaching his college math class here a couple years ago. He had a stroke in mid-sentence, while he was writing on the board. Said it scared the shit out of him. He rested a week or more, went back to work o.k. We call him "Stroker" now, and he's apparently none the worse for wear. Same age as you.

Hang in. This too shall pass. As far as I can see, prayer's pretty amazing stuff. Eat your veggies, now, bud. See ya on the funway.

PM on the way soon.

Wow! Hi guys! And again...thanks loads for all the well wishes ands support!

Ok...here's how things have progressed since my last post. So far today I've been trying to stay as active as I could and it seems to be helping in my recovery. Since I've never had a stroke before I really didn't know what to expect as far as how my body was going to react to this sudden and drastic change. At first I started panicking when I would stand up and move because everything around my shoulder and chest area started to tingle intensely...and I was concerned that I might either be having another stroke or causing myself to have a full blown heart attack.

Since the doctors at the hospital I was at really didn't tell me much when I left the hospital I made a fews calls to other doctors I know and some people that have already gone through a stroke. And basically the tingling is normal...it was just freaking out because this wasn't just a little tingle like smacking your not-so-funny-bone. So after talking with these people I decided to talk a few short walks and then a few shorts drives to the store and back. Once I got used the intense sensations I was feeling I started coming to grips with it and it didn't freak me out anymore.

So at this point...I'm starting to get some feeling back in my toes and the numbness is starting to recede from my face as well...and tonight I'm going back to work. If things keep progressing as they are now I suspect a full recovery within 2 weeks. Most of the pain I'm feeling now is localized to my left shoulder, arm and chest. My leg, neck, and a slight part of my face are still a bit numb...but as the hours pass it seems to be less and less numb. But tonight is the big test...if I cam make it through tonight working I'll be back on track in no time.

Personally, I'm not entirely convinced this was a stroke...even though the doctors...and there were many doctors...felt it was. I was leaning more towards a pinched nerve or something to that affect. My reason for thinking this is how fast my recovery seems to be going, and the lack of other symptoms related to stroke victims. I never blacked out...no loss of speech...no facial drooping...no blurred vision...nothing other than the complete numbness of my left side. I never lost any actual feeling. Who knows...whatever it was I'm just glad I wasn't worse than it was.

The one good thing that has come out of this...is that I've quit smoking! Amazing what a stroke/whatever-this-was can do for you!

I've also learned a few other things along this little lets scare the crap out of WebGizmos journey. Before this stroke or whatever it was that just happened...I was being treated for kidney stones...and trust me...much worse than what just happened...this event was a walk in the park compared to that. Anyway. it turns out that one way to treat them is with lemonade...not the fake reconstituted stuff...real lemonade. Apparently there is some special acid in the lemons that helps dissolve the stones and prevents them from forming in the first place...I'm now drinking the hell out of lemonade It also turns out the one quick way to get them is by drinking powdered ice tea...and here I thought I was doing my body good by drinking green tea with antioxidants...and I drank at least a half gallon a day...sometimes more. Had no idea it also contained large amounts calcium which is great for growing kidney stones...who knew?

But....after all is said...I seem to be bouncing back faster than I thought I would...my typing has even gotten back to what it was...before I was having to correct every other word. And I'm sure it had something to do in part with all the well wishers here in this community!

Thanks everyone for being there...you guys rock!

Yeah....my first thought was everyone was going to think it was one of those "I'm taking my stuff and going home!" tantrums. The thing is though...after all the bitching would be over...this IS home!

Great to hear you're recovering well, Giz.
As scary as it was, you're still alive to tell the story, and will be stronger for it; especially your character as you battle through fear and uncertainty.

I pray for an even speedier and complete recovery and healing of whatever it was that went awry and for a strengthening of all your bodily systems and functions.

Congrats on quitting smoking too!!    A wise decision if ever there was one. Your body will thank you.

Keep up the high-spirits and faith and be well.

Thanks again guys!

Ok...just got back from my first day back on the job. It started off a bit shaky, but everything went just fine except not being able to lift anything yet with my left hand...still a bit weak...but I suspect within the next few weeks it will improve. And I have to say...all things considered...I feel very lucky for it not being as bad as it could have been and for how fast I've been able to get back to work. This is one warning I don't intend to ignore...no more cigs and a change of diet...and in no time I'll have my girlish figure back.

And thanks again for all the support and prayers...you guys are the best! You all deserve a good pat on the back!

pinched nerve or something

Just remembered, a few years ago I had an MRI. Pain and no strength in left arm and chest, etc. Freaked me out! Docs were puzzled. Pretty amazing experience! Seems the nerves pass thru two vertical holes in the vertebrae, on each side. Holes in mine are not open, but full of bone-growths/arthritis, or something. Nerves rub on stuff in there. From 30+ yrs. of framing, falling off roofs, and walking walls. Dunno...maybe similar prob/diagnosis.

My Cub Scout son loved the MRI! The tech told him to watch, and held a steel-link dog collar out, walking slowly toward the big machine...all of a sudden, the collar whipped straight out and pulled toward the monster magnets!

Voc. Rehab./S.S.D.I. paid for it, and two yrs. computer-electronics school too! Check out all the free options. They're out there, just nobody uses them.

Take it from R. Crumb: "Keep on Truckin!"

I'm very sorry to hear about you health problems. Please take care of yourself and get better soon.

Hi guys & girls,

Well....first day back on the job went relatively ok....second day was a bit rough...so I can see I'm not quite out of the woods just yet. Everything seems to be centralized to my left shoulder, arm & mid section. Pretty much feels like I got run over. To be honest...I probably should still be in the hospital, but when you live alone with no health care...your choices are pretty limited. Stay in the hospital and watch the bills goes up and everything else go down the tubes...or...check out, get back to work, and hope you don't drop dead in the process.

They tell me this stroke was brought on by smoking and stress. And the past 2 weeks have been pretty stressful to say the least.

Started off having what I thought were back problems, which actually turned out to be kidney stone problems again...ahhh...kidney stones...dontcha just love'em...lets hear from the kidney stone survivors out there...what was our mantra...Please shoot me!...now!...lol (side note: just found out that real lemonade contains an acid that apparently dissolves and prevents the reformation of kidney stones...buy stock in lemonade now...I'm buying it up left and right...lol)

Then I got news from the U.K. that my 16 year old daughter (who is in fostercare...long story) has apparently been having unprotected sex and was caught sneaking boys in the window of the foster carers home...and will soon be returned to her certifiable nutcase mother. So lets hear it for the U.K. social services....Assholes!

Then...in the process of performing my everyday duty of the newspaper delivery business...my truck...a 2000 FixOrRepairDaily E250 Econoline...decided it was time for a new transmission...which at a cost of $1691.34 was a real bargain...and curiously the exact amount I had left in my bank account...and was also the exact amount I owed to the IRS.

Enter the stroke! (Billy Squire music playing in the background...Stroke!...Stroke!...Stroke!)

Tune in next week when we hear WebGizmos Say.....Damn hemorrhoids! What a pain in the ass!
