I understand how you feel, adjusting to such a big change is hard. I was hesitant to use the test site when it was beta. Give it time, it will grow on you once you're used to it and figured out all the new goodies.

my motto on my page is....."endure change, reap the benefit" i think that rings true in this situation as well

Thank you for the insightful feedback xDaYSx.

I firmly believe that everyone involved in the design and implementation will take what you have contributed here and evaluate as they go forward.

Honestly, if there are real things that you think shouls be addressed, plese do so.  The devs and even the CEO of the sponsoring company are listening and acting on user feedback.

Why don't you try again?

I cant find any of the stuff that was on the CONVINIENT left side bar. I cant find the WB page..the screenshot page, or anything, ugh.

The navigation is on the right side now. If you're on the home page just scroll down a bit and look on the right...it's all there.

Even the 'old' layout was new once...[2K5]...and was similarly the subject of complaint that 'new is bad', so, when one sees that what has come round [before] comes round again it's clear that such change is simply 'different', and actually does not 'suck' at all.

The reason for said change[s] is to actually improve the process of site navigation/browsing.

Liken it to the adaptation/change one goes through each time a new OS is adopted [or even revised].

If any/all change was 'bad' would we all therefore still be gaily using Windows 3.11 to this day?  I doubt it....

You can click the 'Edit' button to the top right of the Gallery List on the right bar and customize the list to your liking. If there are Libraries you prefer listed over the default ones, simply add them and click save.

Generally any website that has a re-do is awkward to use at first, but some people are extremely resistant to change. Personally I like change, at least after a time. I thought the reason someone came to a CUSTOMIZATION site is because they like change. Seems ironic to me to complain about the site as the person who started this thread stated.
I don't find its radically different overall. It runs fast and is better organized in the few areas I have explored so far. Having the listing on the right isn't all that convenient as it nearly gets cut off in my browser. For some reason the coding doesn't allow the page to adjust for the width of the browser. But I rarely use that bar so its not a really bad thing, just slightly annoying.

Its crisp and modern and reflects Vista somewhat in its design which makes sense as well.

You should see the Gallery list right under the WinCustomize Store block (which is under your user tools section there at the top).

most people dont have the browser so big that it can show the main navagation pane on the right...it looks and runs good, but it would really be better if the navagation pane remained on the left.

That would mean their resolution is less than 1024x768. From WC's sitemeter stats http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=sm7wincustomize&r=73 it says that only 6% got a screen resolution lower than that.

but it would really be better if the navagation pane remained on the left.

A navigational sidebar is better located on the right side most of the times. It's closer to the browser windows scrollbar which always is located on the right side. Allowing for less travel distance between the scrollbar and navigational panel. And since western languages are read left to right it also make sense to put the sidebar to the right so your eyes don't have to travel across the sidebar area every time to find the start of the main content you are looking for.

To ensure that the sidebar is displayed at lower resolutions, 6% is still quite a few people considering WC's userbase, it'd be better if the site used a flexible (or fluid, whatever you want to call it) to allow the page to shrink down. However, fluid design can be tricky sometimes to implement with good cross browers compatibilities.
The good thing about WC07 is that it's finally got the CSS separated from the HTML. which should allow for alternative stylesheets to be applied. Currently there is no way to select a stylesheet as a setting on WC, but a Firefox user with for instance the GreaseMonkey extension can apply a whole new stylesheet or add a few style rules to just make the layout shrink into a smaller screen. Though that would require some CSS knowledge.

bumping skinhit's comment:

will the "awaiting moderation" feature be implemented again?

Skinners put a lot of efforts into creating their skins, and not knowing what's happenning to a submitted skin (is it correctly uploaded? / Where is it?), is quite annoying. I thing this issue should be a top priority item.

After all, we freely put content on this web site that allows Stardock to sell more applications, don't we? We even pay for a WC subscrption as well as for the products (WB, IP and so on).

I'm sorry to sound p****d off, but it's quite annoying. And again, I'm not talking about the look and feel of the site, it will grow on us as time passes by.

She is correct - depending on which computer I use - the right side is blank where the Gallery is supposed to be and the log In is missing - The gallery Edit button doesnt work when I click on it. This is odd because I used this other computer at the beta site many times and all was ok. I have deleted cookies etc and relogged in ( can only log in under the forum - no other place has a log in spot for me )
ps: the right side of my screen is not being cut off - its all there - just solid where these items should be.

What browser are you using when you see this problem?  Do you still have this problem because it's working fine here?

Correction...that 'may' be something to do with my being logged into the admin site on a second tab, and not something others might see...

Personally I think the new site looks great. Sure there's going to be a period of adjustment while you get used to the new layout, but that's the same with anything new.

In a few weeks time it'll be like wearing that comfy old jumper you're so fond of
