Collector's Edition Special Content

EVERYONE!

Some retailers who took pre-orders didn't order the Collector's Edition SKU.

No problem, we'll make sure you're taken care of.  Thanks to the serial #s that come with the game, we know which serial #s were part of the first manufacturing run.

Therefore, anyone who pre-ordered the game or gets a box from the first run (the pre-orders pretty much eat all the first manf run) will be able to download the special Collector's Edition content.

That includes:

  • The Galactic Civilizations II Desktop
  • Additional goodies to help design your ships and more!

So don't worry, we'll make sure everything works out okay.  We'll be updating the Downloads page in the next 24 hours to handle this.

UPDATE: Please don't read more into these words than are there.  SOME retailers who took pre-orders didn't order the collector's edition.  As far as we know, MOST did.  We just want to intercept those who find out their retailer didn't order the right unit to know that we will make sure they're taken care of.

Question - Does collectors edition content extend to those who got the TG.net upgrade?
Do download preorders get the content, or is it only for people who bought an actual cd?

Also there's a poster sized tech tree and silver box (for what that is?)...How will those who do not recieve them in the shipped box recieve them.

I wondered about the Printed Tech Tree myself? It is one reason I pre-ordered from EB.

Mine is a EB Games Pre-order, but not sure if they are getting the collectors edition of not when it arrives.

I got an email from SD today indicating that I would need to buy the $20 upgrade to the collector's edition (in addition to confirming my TGN status and serial #).

It seems like a lot of dough for the only part I want, the WB skin. The box and the tech tree don't interest me that much. Can I see a screenshot of the skin and a photo of the tech-tree [not like my wife would let me put it up, but . . . ].

I did think that the TGN.net folks were a "pre-order" and that I would get the FULL package for all our support.

Stardock does a really good job of being open when they think about stuff . . but sometimes they don't always think about stuff.

I'm not complaining. I got my money's worth from TGN. I am just disappointed that I don't get this.

The Printed tech tree is one thing we probably can't do much on. But there is a PDF and in a pinch, we can see how many extras we get and send them to people who really really want it.

I reserved my copy at Gamestop. When I called the store today, the associates there didn't know when the game would be instock and whether it was the collector's or standard edition. I knew I should have just ordered direct from Stardock.

How about those of us in Australia who want a proper copy of the game and have pre-ordered at EB Games down here? Will we get a chance to get the special downloadable content too? Will you give us the same benefit re: serial numbers too?

Game is due out here March 12 btw

I really, really, really, really, really, really, really (you get the idea?), really, really, really want the printed poster. I ordered yesterday from Stardock, I certainly hope I get it now that my hopes are up for it.

I specifically ordered for the tech tree and everything else so I expect to get them. I'm sure there's a way to make it happen if they cannot get it correct the first time. We will find out how intelligent EB salepeople are when it comes to ordering the version I "told" him to order(we discussed it at length so I bet he did it right)...

Well, I am bummed. I really like the extra stuff and enjoy tech trees.

I thought it was a good thing to order from a store to help give the game longevity on the shelves as stated.

If not many stores got the pre-orders, how many Tech Trees were produced in the first place?

I understand waiting and no trouble with that, but what happens to all the stores that took pre-orders from people that are expecting to receive what the pre-order promised?

Anyway, I will certainly still enjoy the game when it finally arrives, but I must admit it takes a bit of the excitement edge off.

I pre-orded from Walmart only because I had read a post by Brad that they will stock the collector's edition exclusively. The extra content was cool, I was looking foward to the tech tree, and I wanted to support Stardock by pre-ordering. I'm a little confused/disturbed by what's going on with this situation. I had been looking foward to this for a very long time. So is it a wash here...should I just downloand from Stardock? What is everyone else planning on doing?

Well, a big part of the incentive to pre-order is gone at this point.

I am not sure what we will get now that the game did not ship. If it amounts to a few extra parts for the ships (that everyone will get in the first run), just seems a bit sparse.

I am not upset, but simply disappointed.

From the way I understand it, thats not the case at all. Pre-orderers are still the only people who get the bonus content (ship parts, bonus maps, tech tree print out, SILVER BOX ANYONE AMIRITE?), it just isnt getting released till friday.

Dont be dissapointed! Turn that frown upside down!

I preordered from Amazon. Not sure what I'll receive.

Decided to look locally. I live in San Jose, CA (Silicon Valley). Fry's claims they will not carry Gal Civ 2 anywhere in this region. Gamestop said their units might arrive today. Best Buy is getting like 20 units for this whole area which might arrive next week. Walmart wasn't stocking it yet. Didn't ask the clerk since she was busy helping someone with Ninja Turtle DVDs.

I WANT the Collector Stuff. Paper and electronics. No clue how to get 'em.

Just to be clear:

I am saying that SOME retailers who took pre-orders didn't do the collector's edition.  I'm pretty sure EB and Gamestop are fine.  I know Walmart is fine becuase that's all they carry.

WooHoo! Hope flickers once more. Thanks

BTW, with regarsd to the tech tree thing, if necessary, I'd be willing to make sure we get enough of those things so that we can physically mail them to anyone who requests one that got the first batch of the retail game.

Your the customer after all. It doesn't matter who's at fault. It's OUR responsibility to make sure you are happy with the purchase regardless of where you got it.

You are a stand-up guy Brad. I'm glad I've supported you and Stardock for so long.

@ #19.

It's comments like that, that ensure I will be out looking for this game tomorrow. If I don't have it in my hands by Friday I'll order it off the website. I have Gal Civ 1 and love it!

Thanks Frogboy!

Well I for one got what was supposed to be a Collector's Edition from Best Buy today, one of the only stores in the world to get the game before Friday (or March for that matter) it seems. But all I got was the regular edition. Brad had stated on another forum that ALL pre-orders in North America would be CEs, but that is obviously not true. I went through the trouble of waiting for retail for the extras that were supposed to be exclusive, like the tech tree poster. Now I find out that not only did I not get the CE (The Best Buy guy said they all were, regardless of the packaging), but the tech tree isn't in the box?

I know you are the best development team ever, and you are wonderful to your customers...but this *really* needs to be corrected IMHO. I want the pretty tech tree hanging next to my computer as promised. Like most others, I pre-ordered a Collector's Edition because I wanted the extra goodies, and not just digital replicas.

Your distribution company (Take 2?) needs a firm face slapping.

I preordered GalCiv2 on TG.net using tokens. Does that mean I will also get the collector edition goodies to download? Or does that fall under that option of $20 to upgrade to the collectors edition (which I think means mailing us the box too)? I thought the $20 upgrade was for people who were on Drengin.net (yearly subscription) when it transtioned to tokens.

Maybe I've not seen it but does the Electronic Download via Stardock (Totalgaming) actually contain the extra collector's edition goodies? I pre-ordered (and are playing) that one and I get the distinct impression that they are not.

Does anyone else with the electronic download share that impression?

Why not just let EVERYONE download the tech tree and the rest of the added goodies. Who cares if it's pre-ordered or not.
