Collector's Edition Special Content

Collector's Edition Special Content

EVERYONE!

Some retailers who took pre-orders didn't order the Collector's Edition SKU.

No problem, we'll make sure you're taken care of.  Thanks to the serial #s that come with the game, we know which serial #s were part of the first manufacturing run.

Therefore, anyone who pre-ordered the game or gets a box from the first run (the pre-orders pretty much eat all the first manf run) will be able to download the special Collector's Edition content.

That includes:

  • The Galactic Civilizations II Desktop
  • Additional goodies to help design your ships and more!

So don't worry, we'll make sure everything works out okay.  We'll be updating the Downloads page in the next 24 hours to handle this.

UPDATE: Please don't read more into these words than are there.  SOME retailers who took pre-orders didn't order the collector's edition.  As far as we know, MOST did.  We just want to intercept those who find out their retailer didn't order the right unit to know that we will make sure they're taken care of.

You have to download the Collectors edition goodies from the website on the Dowloads tab. When I enter my serial #, it says its not a valid collector's edition #. And my email on ordering it from TG.net says... Product Name : Galactic Civilizations II (Pre-Order).

BTW, with regarsd to the tech tree thing, if necessary, I'd be willing to make sure we get enough of those things so that we can physically mail them to anyone who requests one that got the first batch of the retail game.
Your the customer after all. It doesn't matter who's at fault. It's OUR responsibility to make sure you are happy with the purchase regardless of where you got it.

Thanks Brad, that's really good to hear. Stardock's unflagging support and commitment to fixing whatever needs fixing--be it bugs in the game or distribution problems--continues to astound me!

I like--many others here--also pre-ordered GalCiv 2 so that I could get the tech tree poster (along with everything else), so I'm very glad this is being addressed. I pre-ordered through EB Games, so hopefully there won't be any problems (knock on wood!), but it's nice to know I'll be covered either way. A tip o' the hat to you and your fine crew.

If you pre-ordered the game from TG or Stardock, put your serial number in the first space, NOT the Collector's Edition space in the Downloads section. I was confused to begin with as well. All serial numbers from the pre-order are being treated as Collector's Edition serials. Just enter the serial in the first slot and downlaod your goodies.

Just a question. I ordered today, directly from Stardock, for download + CD shipping. So this means I get the normal version right, not the CE?

Maybe I've not seen it but does the Electronic Download via Stardock (Totalgaming) actually contain the extra collector's edition goodies? I pre-ordered (and are playing) that one and I get the distinct impression that they are not.

Does anyone else with the electronic download share that impression?

ive only pre-ordered some days before the release via electronic download because it said that extra ship components were included that way.
i really hope that thats indeed the case and that i dont have to 'upgrade' for 20 bucks or something to get them ...
are the extra ship components included?
im not sure.
i would really appreciate any enlightenment on that subject.

I think StarDock could avoid a lot of hassle if they'd just (eventually, maybe in a few weeks or something) release the extra CE content as a download. Either way this is kind of snafu'd. I pre-ordered mine from Gamestop and they didn't even tell me there was the availability of ordering any kind of CE version. I hope my copy IS a CE version because I just hate missing out on content for my games.

On a sidenote, I really am growing to dislike this annoying trend of extra or special versions (either for more or the same amount of money). It's one extra confusion in the process of getting your game and it reminds me a lot of the whole gimmick comic book cover craze (get your copy of X-men #1 laminated with gold foil holograms and scratch-n-sniff ink!). UGH.

Either way I still fully support SD and their games. I will be spreading the word about this game, even though I don't have my copy yet.

Man if the team at 2K were to have done this with civilization 4 I would not have returned it with the french techtree, missprinted CD's, poorly written code and less than zero tech support they lost my sales and all my customers. Wereas you people are getting two thumbs up for it and everyone I meet in the computer industry will be told to BUY!

Thats about 100-120 people per week I will mention it to, give a bit of loss for them not liking this type of program in the first place thats still about 80-90 people who will probably be buying. Hope this adds to your flavor of life just like you've helped and will continue to help all of us.
Kudos!!

Gang - As Brad stated at the beginning, if you pre-ordered the game or have just bought it (regardless of from where), you will be getting the Collector's Edition download content. All you'll need to do is enter your serial number in the page we've setup.

Well, I'm getting really frustrated lately, so hopefully someone can help... I should preface this by saying that I don't currently have access to my PC (I moved cross-country, and it's still in transit). However, I've been desperately trying to figure out if I can access the extra content of the Collector's Edition using the instructions above.

I ordered the game last fall in order to play in the beta, and I'm assuming that qualifies me for the extra content. However, there appears to be a problem in that I seem to have used two email addresses at some point.

Email Address #1: This is the account that has both my GalCiv1 and GalCiv2 serial numbers associated with it. If I ask for the serial numbers associated with this address, they show up fine.

Email Address #2: This is the account I'm currently using to post on the forums. If I ask for the serial numbers associated with it, there are none. If I try to register my GalCiv2 number with this account, it says that it's not associated with this account. Fair enough.

If I try to create a new account with Email Address #1, since that's the one that the seral numbers are associated with, I keep getting server errors. Last night it was a combination of server timeouts and generic failure messages telling me to contact Stardock. This morning it's server errors ("Server Error in '/' Application. Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '@Email'.")

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I loved the beta, and one of the things I'm really looking forward to is the "Lego" ship building. I want those bonus pieces!

Thanks in advance.

I just tried the download page again and was able to download the CE content.

Thanks SD, best customer service EVER!

Cauldyth,

I got an email to the email account that I used with TG.n with a link that populated the serial #. Did you get that email?

Hey gang,

To clear up any confusion, the original post above said that there would be some new hulls in the Collectors Edition. The hulls are actually in the Bonus Pack, which everyone that downloaded the game should already have. The real meat of the Collectors Edition comes from over a dozen new peices of jewelry to use when designing your ships

Hope this all makes sense Thanks everyone for your paticence.

I'm from Canada - and I've pre-ordered. Unfortunatly, they are not expecting the game until sometime next week. As I'm on break until the end of the week, I really want to play ASAP. I was wondering if I purchased online (from your store, even if I have to pay 5-10$ more) could I get all the pre-order goodies? I really don't want to wait any longer.
Hmm, I can't enter my seriel number because I ordered with a different email address

EDIT: By order I mean pre-order from stardock, electronic DL.
Err, this may seem like a silly question, aren't the people who pre-ordered the game through Gamestop/etc also supposed to get the Bonus Pack? O.o Not that I have my copy yet to check, because of the silliness going on with shipping, but I wanted to ask anyway. >_>;;

You don't seem to understand. This is *not* about the stupid bonus downloads. I ordered, and should have received, the CE box and tech tree. Brad said himself that ALL North American pre-orders will 100% be CEs. Well, I got mine from Best Buy yesterday, and along with most everyone else who got the game them (You can't get it anywhere else retail yet), we did not get the *promised* CEs. I want my official shiny box and tech tree. I'd venture to get that most people who get CEs are elite collectors or completists, like myself, who go the extra mile to get what we want, and are promised.

So unless they are going to send me a nice CE box and tech tree (they said they would mail off tech trees, but who knows when that will be), then I will be upset about this purchase. It's not like I can return it to Best Buy and expect them to understand how screwed up this whole purchase has been.

Me: "Hello Mr. underpaid manager who doesn't give a rats ass about PC games, did you know that Stardock said ALL pre-orders would be CEs, and that you gave me a regular edition? I want my CE now, as promised and paid for."

Him: "Sir, there's nothing I can do for you. Maybe we can take the game back and give you store credit, but that's the best I can do."

Yay, so I get to return the game, and get store credit for another game? I want this game, and I have it, but I also want the special geeky stuff I have been salivating over.

I want to get a copy of the CD for my preorder (I already paid and all and have downloaded all but the media files). I don't see how to go about doing this without repurchasing the software. Help?
I checked the serial numbers on amazon and it appears that it is sending the regular version. I'll just have to wait and see since I chose the free shipping option

Cauldyth - You should email [email protected] to get that resolved.

lokiju - Please email that to [email protected] and I'm sure we'll get you taken care of somehow.

How about those of us in Australia who want a proper copy of the game and have pre-ordered at EB Games down here? Will we get a chance to get the special downloadable content too? Will you give us the same benefit re: serial numbers too?

Game is due out here March 12 btw

Dude, I'm from Australia and pre-ordered direct from stardock. Already been playing the game like a maniac, even if Im completely terrible at it. It's a blast.

My point is: why bother with some distributor like EB games, when you can go straight to the source!

cheers,
dt

Believe me, I understand your frustration.  We have it too. I won't go into details but suffice to say we have our frustrations on this too.

It's no one's fault in particular. We were told that all pre-orders from all sources in NA would be fulfilled with the CE version.  But that turned out not to be the case.

The only difference between the two version is that CE version has a different box style and comes with a fold out tech tree.  And I'm saying for the record that anyone who really wants that fold out tech tree can email [email protected], include their serial #, and we'll mail them for free one of those tech tree posters.

Sometimes life has disappointments.  After all, we spent 2 years of our lives working on the game so having it not be widely available at retail on the same day as the digital release due to higher expected demand coupled with the holiday (Presidents Day) is a bit of a bummer.

But in the bigger scheme of things, it's small potatoes isn't it?  It should be about the game itself. That's what this is about. Making a fun, good PC strategy game that hopefully will give you months or even years of enjoyment.
