Some retailers who took pre-orders didn't order the Collector's Edition SKU.

No problem, we'll make sure you're taken care of.  Thanks to the serial #s that come with the game, we know which serial #s were part of the first manufacturing run.

Therefore, anyone who pre-ordered the game or gets a box from the first run (the pre-orders pretty much eat all the first manf run) will be able to download the special Collector's Edition content.

That includes:

  • The Galactic Civilizations II Desktop
  • Additional goodies to help design your ships and more!

So don't worry, we'll make sure everything works out okay.  We'll be updating the Downloads page in the next 24 hours to handle this.

UPDATE: Please don't read more into these words than are there.  SOME retailers who took pre-orders didn't order the collector's edition.  As far as we know, MOST did.  We just want to intercept those who find out their retailer didn't order the right unit to know that we will make sure they're taken care of.

Believe me, I understand your frustration. We have it too. I won't go into details but suffice to say we have our frustrations on this too.
It's no one's fault in particular. We were told that all pre-orders from all sources in NA would be fulfilled with the CE version. But that turned out not to be the case.
The only difference between the two version is that CE version has a different box style and comes with a fold out tech tree. And I'm saying for the record that anyone who really wants that fold out tech tree can email [email protected], include their serial #, and we'll mail them for free one of those tech tree posters.
Sometimes life has disappointments. After all, we spent 2 years of our lives working on the game so having it not be widely available at retail on the same day as the digital release due to higher expected demand coupled with the holiday (Presidents Day) is a bit of a bummer.
But in the bigger scheme of things, it's small potatoes isn't it? It should be about the game itself. That's what this is about. Making a fun, good PC strategy game that hopefully will give you months or even years of enjoyment.


You are right of course. This game is amazing, period. I was not angry at Stardock so much as the whole process involved. I figured Take 2 messed up, not you guys. In hindsight, the CE box is not worth getting worked up over (yes it does suck though), and I'm glad we can get the tech tree mailed out. That is more than most companies would do for it's customers...just look at the CiV IV French issue.

Sigh...I have the game, and am happy. Sorry to vent today.

I wanted to add that as disappointing as it is not getting my preorder until almost a week following its release date... I greatly appreciate how much you guys at stardock care about us (the customers). Everything that I have read on your site from the development journals to the forum posts shows how much you guys care about your work and your customers. That is one of the reasons I preordered this game which I usually avoid doing. I understand that things often happen outside of our control and there is only so much we can do to reduce those occurrences so I won’t even begin to place blame on the problems that came up following launch day. I can live with minor set backs knowing that you guys will do what you can to take care of us (Offering to mail free tech trees is a great example). Waiting another week for an awesome game won't kill me.

I pre-ordered at a local Gamestop. According to their website, it now lists a shipping date of Feb. 27th. I take it that I am not part of this "first manufacturing run" should my copy be a non-collector's edition(most likely)? Depressing.

Peshmerga - No, you're part of the first run. I'm not sure why Gamestop is taking so long (especially since EB Games has it in), but I've been informed that all units have been shipped to the various retailers.

I have been waiting all week and still no retail. I just bought online about an hour ago. I did not see the option for collector's edition though. Will I have an oportunity to purchase the content off stardock?

I reserved a copy of the game at ebgames this monday, i dunno if that counts as a preorder or not. Anyways, they actaually got some copies in today (Southern Louisiana). My question is, is my copy part of the first run? does that make me eligible for the collector's edition content? When i registered my serial and went to downloads, i could get the Bonus 1.0D update (is there another one coming?) and two other downloads, Enable collectors edition content, and the same Plus desktop theme. Since i patched and ran the enabler (they both went fine) does that mean i have the collector's edition goodies?

Best Buy - ETA Monday / Tuesday
Walmart - NA
Circuit City - "what is that?" - quote from store guy, so NA

Sounds like it. The only 2 things you didn't get are the shiny CE box and the tech tree, which can be downloaded.

I preordered at FutureShop here in Canada, and their ETA is the 1st of March. Is this still going to be part of the first production run and eligible for the CE content?

I'd ordered before I'd heard Take2 was involved.. I'm really hoping they don't follow what they did with Civilization 2 and give us all (Canadians) PDF manuals for the game. I like a printed book I can read on the toilet or the bus or whatever.

Apparently EBGames.com did not offer the collectors edition SKU because I just received my shipment and it was the standard box not the collectors edition box. I did get a tech poster at least and it was just placed in my shipping carton.

Just found out that my serial number I recieved from stardock for my preorder, is not a CE serial number!!!! Tried to enter it into the CE serial number field for the additional downloads, but is says that it is not REGISTERED as a CE.
Now this is from you all, direct, any ideas as to what may have happened????

Smaller font's a good thing. Don't put your preorder serial number into the CE field. Put it into the first field just to the left of the CE serial number field.

Can any one clear this up, i'm confused... CE content includes the exstra ship design stuff?

Bought the game off stardock + shipped CD and sence the Box say CE i'm asuming it's CE.

How do i acess the ship design stuff, i already know it's in it's folder but it dont show up in game, i have updated the download Serial whit the one from the box but noting happend.

Now i love the game it's blows me away but i spend alot fo tiem designing ships so i REALY Wants that exstra ship content.

Please beggin for an answere
