You know, the more I have played, the more I actually wish the core races were unmodifiable. Leave the custom races to.... customise and have 9 distinctly flavoured races. This I agree with COMPLETELY! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/BigSmile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle

I want my evil robotic alien species to have some technological advantages (i.e the Borg) otherwise they are just another picture on the screen. Perhaps this is the best case that can be made for over-powered Yor. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmidd

Come on Mr. Thrower, miniturization/logistics are the ONLY advantages that a civ inherently has! The other stuff like pop growth is just dependent on how many points you want to put into it. You can't change what bonus your civ has for those two areas! That's what I have been getting at, there are only there areas that can differentiate the civs ability-wise (miniturization, logistics, starting techs), and the Yor has the best/highest of all three! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_D

But that's just it... I really don't see it as a gross imbalance. It's hardly like selecting the Yor is clicking the I WIN button, is it? A fractional, tiny imbalance yes.... but as I said, there is no way you can ever achieve perfect balance because you are comparing apples and oranges. There will always be

I dont think thats the case - people are neither missing the point or misunderstanding the situation. The Yor aren't ALL powerful. They are not so ungodly uber that they always win or a player using them will always win. So you can create a custom Yor that has their benefits and others.... this still doesnt guarantee you a

I think many of the posters here miss the point, or misunderstand the situation. There are only two statistics, logistics and miniturization, that are inherent to a civ, and can't be customized. The rest are interchangeable and are just dependent on what you want to put your points in. The Yor have both the highest logistics, and by far, the highest miniturization of any civ. That in itself would give the Yor an unfair advantage, but unbeliveably, t

By the way, I didn't even realize the Yor started out with the most techs too until now. That's simply beyond belief! There HAS to be something that balances things out. I can't believe Stardock would commit such an egregious error in game balance.

You're correct, I started the other thread about the Yor and it seems puzzling that Stardock would make the Yor clearly so much stronger. I had asked Stardock if there were any "under the hood" effects that balanced things out, but none were ever clearly established...

Thank you for the clarification! To my knowledge however, the information that civs start with a certain ethical alignment isn't even readily available anywhere, which is surprising. I can remember back to my old GalCiv 1 days and recall that the Drengin were pure evil and the Torians Chaotic Good, but what about new players who never played the first Gal Civ? And what of the Thalans and Iconians?

I have re-read those articles and it is interesting that some of the civs seem to have hints at some vaguely-defined bonuses, and others don't. It is curious that this information is not simply readily available. Perhaps it is time for Frogboy to spill the secrets!

I re-read those articles, and it looks like certain advantages are hinted at for some civs, but not for others, or at least not very clearly. What is puzzling is that this information doesn't really seem to be readily available anywhere. Maybe it's time for Stardock to spill it's secrets!

Based on what information we have now, it would actually seem that the Yor are as good as any other civ at helping and befriending, unless information comes out regarding an inherent disadvantage in diplomacy, or if they start off as evil (which I don't believe is the case). In fact, I would even go so far to say that perhaps the Yor are actually better than any other civ in achieving a peaceful diplomatic victory since their inherent minit

Ah, I see. The terrans always start off with Mars, but with a lower base quality planet. This is very interesting. Now if we can only uncover what subtle advantages all these civs have. For example, is it hard fact that the Thalans have a higher birthrate?

Interesting, Thalans always start off with a PQ15 planet? That fact would certainly support that their are subtle "below the hood" advantages to certain civs. I thank everyone for their replies thus far. Would a Stardock rep be able to clear up this voodoo for us all?

One curiosity I have noticed is that the only inherent advantages a civilization has is it's logistics and miniturization bonuses. The other bonuses, social production, research, etc, are interchangeable meaning you can substitute 2 points in research for 2 points in morale on the set up screen before you start a game. The only stats that never change is a civs logistics/miniturization bonuses. The yor have the largest miniturization and logistics bonu
