Are you talking about the WebView items? (Such as the logo that appears when you open your Windows folder) If so, any paint program will do the trick, provided it can save gif images. As for replacing the default images with your own creations, you'll need an utility like Desktop Architect, which you can find at http://www.desktoparchitect.com/index.php

Frogboy, JavaB, Tandis, I apologize if my posts reflect badly on the company when the uneducated assume I work for you. If you'd like me to stop posting in that particular thread, let me know.

Grymm, haven't the skinners' rights to protect their work been explained throughly enough? Sorry, but the "why make trouble?" ideology doesn't fly with me. Protecting one's property is not "making trouble."

kmkkid, if you don't mind other people "borrowing" from your work, that's your right. By the same token, it is our right to say "no" if we don't want our artwork ripped.

If you look carefully, you'll notice that while Alexandrie's XP skins follow the guidelines set forth by the Luna designer(s), all of the graphics are made by Alex herself. Aside from that, you do raise an interesting point... Personally, I tend to go easy on OS-based skins because OS makers seem to be ok with the creation of skins that are either inspired by or are direct clones of their GUIS (Microsoft endorses WB, even including it in its XP catalog, and I've never heard they have a

"Some people are actually mature enough to know what stealing is." And you're not one of them. You're not defending your right to free speech, you're trying to justify theft.

For icon editing: IconCool Editor. It's buggy as hell, but it's cheap too For bitmap editing: PhotoPlus 5, Wally, HarmTile, Teralogic Texture Maker. Plus SkinStudio, of course. ps-- My first skins are finally nearing completion. They're WB ports of Stan Sy's Sakura and Cold Mettle Winamp skins (And yes, I got his permission before I made them <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smil

Jafo, don't worry, I'll be more careful in the future. ps-- The mod at the iexBeta board closed the thread discussing the PreLuna port, and acknowledged it as a rip

This is the final draft of the email: "Hello, You should be aware of the fact that one of the sites you host contains design work directly stolen from a third party. The artwork in question consists of "Visual Styles", which change the appearance of the Windows XP interface. The person using your service to host his Visual Styles has several designs that have been lifted from the works of other digital artists. For example: http://www.peakpeak.com/~nicks/PreLuna.jp

hehehe ps-- I'm writing an email to the company that hosts the rips of Alex's work. Any thoughts before I send it? Oh, for fuck's sake... I could citch-slap the jackass who called you a fascist. He had the nerve to defend rips because they are "art." I'm sorry, but stealing another artist's design is not art. I'm a fairly talented 2-d artist, and I could produce a reasonably decent facsimile of a Drurer drawing. That doesn't make me an artist, just a forger. I think I'm gonna do a little flamingof my own...

This is starting to look like the time that Bono Vox person ripped treetog's Sputnik skin and uploaded it at Nullsoft... Credit or no credit, someone needs to set this guy straight. I agree, therer doesn't seem to be any malicious intent here, but a rip is a rip.

Nice to see ogomez got here... This thread wouldn't be complete without someone trashing the beliefs of those of us who are religious. I'll never get how Christians are supposed to be the "intolerant" ones when atheists have no problem getting in your face and dismissing your belief system as a "fantasy."
