If it was just the handwriting I would say that it probably was a child being coached, but when I read the "child" bit I immediately thought of this story . How much time have you spent on the internet and you don't believe that adults can have horrible grammar and spelling?
Don't be so sure that letter was written by a child. I remember an episode of the Simpsons where Principle Skinner thought that Bart was writing his own excuse notes, until he saw Homer sign something in the same "handwriting." I wouldn't be surprised if the person who wrote that note just isn't that into the whole "reading and writing" thing.
