When I'm building say, Elon's Lift, and someone beats me to it, I should get a notification that "x race" or "unknown race" has built Elon's Lift etc. as in previous games.

This does not seem like something they'd do. If you keep it, maybe have it RAISE relations if you do nothing?
When mousing over a pirate shipyard with a small group of missile ships, the battle prediction was that I would incur a total loss and inflict moderate casualties. So I bombarded the shipyard down to low health, but it still gave the same prediction. I then outright attacked the shipyard, and destroyed it without losing a single ship. It appears that either it doesn't predict based on remaining health, or there is an error predicting after missile bombardments.
I consider myself a connoisseur of Galciv, as I began with Galactic Civilizations 1 as a Junior in college, circa 2002. I think I might have even bought it at release, though I don't recall. I was never active in the forums but I read a LOT! Remember, gosh, I think it was called The Restaurant at the End of the Universe? Maybe it was Restaurant of Eternity, a Galciv 1 Wonder. He gave screenshots and detailed descriptions of playthroughs of his masochistic (hardest difficulty) games. This was
Okay, runs good. Heat is the only factor factor, and I've had a few system shutdowns already. Any suggestions? btw, it's great to be able to play at work =)
Thanks. I installed the ATI drivers first from ATI inc, but to no success. After installing Omega the game does load (although after a considerable wait... much be virtual memory combined with laptop HD). I'll play through for a while and let you know of any other issues. Thanks for your help!

Okay, I think I'm out of luck but I'd appreciate some help. I'm running a rather old laptop with a radeon igp 340m integrated vid card, 512 mg ram (384 after sharing), 2.4gig p4, and about 1gig pagefile. Everything meets minimum requirements except that as far as I can find, the 340m does NOT have directx 9+ hardware acceleration, only 8.1+. Here's the thing: I tried running the program before windows xp sp2 and updating the game, and it ran fine, but since the updates I've had a reg
LOL yeah... I call it "poaching" the resource
Not to "dumb it down", but perhaps you should play on a lower setting, so you can at least put away a victory, then work your way up? One way I keep things going is to expand VERY quickly, but in a limited way (if that makes sense). In other words, don't overextend yourself! You have a "grace period" in relations for a few months with other major civs after you make first contact, but when that's over it's all MERIT BASED. Check the "reports" screen to see how other majors are
Sent a msg to support, because I purchased online and dont' have a disc w/ serial # on it.
Thank you. How do I recover the serial # now?
Looking for support on the following error, which won't allow the program to run: "The product appears to be validated but the serial number or the machine SID don’t match." I performed a destructive system recovery on winXP a few months ago, so perhaps that something to do with it? I have tried reinstalling, didn't work. The game worked fine before the recovery. It sounds like just a validation thing, but I don't know why it didn't fix when I reinstalled the game/rebooted. <br/
Are you still around, Sirian? I read every article in your "Restaurant of the Universe" website about GalCiv, they were great. You haven't updated it since 04, though...
