Need advice on purchasing game in Galactic Civilizations I Stardock Forums

Okay, I have decided to buy the game :) Now, I need some honest opinions here on whether to drive 50 miles roundtrip to get it in a store, or download it. I have cable modem, Is the manual worth the trip? Is the game that complicated where I will need the printed manual, or will the PDF file be enough? Thanks, Ray
