I thnk most buildings use 0.1 power though right ? so you'd probably need to have power at 200 or so before it be worth stopping producing tier 2 items. Mines may be worth it though

Like for example, alternating mines and factories on the same spot is obvious ... once you've thought about it !! good catch :) I always assumed that adjacency bonuses always gave only improved througput (same output per input just more of both), didn't think it also improved efficiencey (better output with same input), which is even better!
I guess the rationale is to "reward" or rather compensate the late founders : they likely lost opportunity to use the better locations (most likely used by the first founders)
AS the title says :) Once you have more than 2 icons displayed top left, you can't really see teh "colony is shrinking" feedback

I've found I like the Scientific HQ. And tried to play the campaign quite a bit, through trial and error. Took me quite of time to notice the colony status hint on the top left of the screen, which allowed me to understand why i had failed a few times before. Just lost once more because of it : the AI just doesn't care, and keeping the colony alive means that you need to make some lost investments on maps where water soruces are scarce devoting s
