Hahaha, well done. I don't know if you read it here, but I posted the idea that it would be a cool meta-game to try to grow the Colony to the max a while ago. If so, good the see you ran with it, if not it does seem to be something to try, isn't it?! Great to see it can grow that big. Smart idea to surround the opponents HQ that way, I guess Soren will need to adjust the AI again, to help them adjust to this evil tactic...! ;-)
I think it should go the other way. 20 seconds of paused intermission every 5 minutes of game time to let the humans process the backlog.
It would be great to see this as an option at the start of a game , to have the game "auto-pause" every 100 or so ticks. (This would make the game a sort of hybrid RTS/TBS.) It would even be better if you could choose the number of ticks too.
I don't own a Mac so this might be completely of the mark, but it seems you can run the game as a Mac game without the need to start the Windows emulator. It even runs on Linux, from what I've seen posted here!
This is exactly what makes this such an interesting game. I've seen more than a few posters claiming that the current game is nothing more than a race to be first Offworld and from that moment on you know you've won. This is simply not true. The strategy you so eloquently describe is sure to be followed by other ways to win the game. I have the feeling that there are enough tools in the game to allow many different, equally valid, strategies.
Ah, that must be it! Thanks Scott, I'm enjoying the game, I hope you don't get disharted that so much of the feedback you guys are getting are about the UI, I understand that it is very much a Work-In-Progress and I'm sure it will be smooth when it is all done.
You get a one-time bonus from the resources you found on. It is helpful for early upgrading.
... and saw a Scientific HQ build FIVE(! ) launch pads. I thought the AI didn't cheat?! [e digicons]O:)[/e] It did manage to eek out a win this way after being last to get to level 5. I can recommend beginning players like me to 'observe' a few games because it helps to learn parts of the UI. This way I found out that you can click some of the eventlist messages in the right-bottom corner, and it will take you to the relevant bit of the map. Normally the m
Hahaha, good read, and recognizable points. On the subject of ice: it was stated in one of the dev video's that there is water ice on one of the poles and dry-ice on the other.
I have not played that many games yet, but still I recognize and agree with most of what you say here. To me the Colony is the most tantilizing bit of the game, because it seems to be so underlit, so to say, while I feel that it could indeed add even more depth to an already very varied game. I don't know if there will be a point score at some point to attach to winning or even losing, but I feel the size and content of the colony could play a role, next to time s
Hah, that's a big question, a major part of the game I would say! I am still in the process of finding out, the tutorials do a good job at that. Each of the HQ types have different needs, like Robotic need electronics instead of food, so the elements that you need to manufacture that need to be close at hand preferably, etc. There is an excel sheet floating around here that has an overview of the resources needed. I can't seem to make it into a link, but you can copy/paste it&

You where up early! Thanks for the response, I will post more detailed comments when I come across specific issues.
So far I have played the first two tutorials, and the game is a blast! To my surprise I really like that the game is so short. It is obvious that the UI needs a lot of work still, for a new player some thing are hard to make out. I guess that is a typical blindness that you get when you know the game inside-out, and the reason the game is in Early Acess, so I expect to see the UI improve fast. Although there is a relative small amount of products that can be mined/manufactured, it is
Thank you, yes, that is what I meant. So at the moment there is no way to tell in a normal game, but for the size of it. Which could be enough. I am very much looking forward to playing soon and finding out! [e digicons][/e]
Thanks for the answer, but I am talking about the settlement, the consumers, the drivers of the market, not the HQ. If there are enough resources being produced (for low enough prices I presume) the settlement grows. Letting the settlement grow seems like a fun sub-target next to making the best profit. Like a type of virtual CSR (corporate social responsibility) ;-).
There's a bunch of video's where the devs are playing multiplayer games on youtube. Here's one to get you going:
I have asked this question elsewhere, but I guess it does't hurt to ask again here, since I didn't get an answer there... [e digicons];)[/e] The question was whether you can see how big the colony has grown? I would very much like to see one of these challenges be to get the colony (as opposed to the company, I mean the consumer settlement) as big as possible.
Not having played the game yet, so as a complete newb, I feel that it would be a nice goal to grow the colony as big as it can. Which probably would involve not winning as long as you possibly can, while not letting the other players win at the same time. Is this at all possible? Are there stats in which you can see the ultimate size of the colony?
You can say whatever you like publicly, but we are asking that people hold off on screenshots or videos (besides what we have published, of course) until the 12th.
Thanks for your answer, I could not reply earlier since new members on the forum apparantly only are allowed a limited number of posts.
Like some of you may know I am active on a few game fora (like civfanatics ) and run a ( recently revived ) game related blog. Can I publish my experiences with the game in place's like that (of course mentioning that that the game is still in development and is subject to change etc.)?
I've heard Soren say you can play at a lower speed when playing single player. I'm not sure if that slows down the actual game, or just the economy, since I'm also waiting for Feb. 12. You can also pause in SP.
Yes, I noticed, but as Propbudda says, that doesn't affect everything in the game. I guess I will find out if I can keep up in a few days. I am very much looking forward to it.
There *is* no number 2 (yet), something went wrong during the recording of that tutorial. BTW I took the plunge and pre-ordered, eventhough I usually play TBS (Civ!) rather than RTS. I hope I can keep up, the game seems pretty high paced looking at the streams.
