For what it's worth, here is my basic starting strategy for masso: There is only one hardfast rule: The only war you should ever be in is one that you decide to start! :) I like to play industrialist (military and social production bonuses) :) Take planet quality bonus, military production, and diplomatic bonuses >:( Don't bother with a poor starting position ctrl-n until you get something you like. :) Sol should be PQ20 or higher. >:( Don't lease anything in the ear

It's the practices of companies like Symantec that cause people to not trust downloads. Companies like Stardock can change this thinking. I predict that in a couple of years from now, about the time GalCiv II :d goes gold, direct purchases from software developers will be a lot more common -- especially with broadband internet access becoming a lot more common.
Drew: Just make sure you install StarDock Central and use it to update you game before playing. The "out of the box" version is light years old. :p Stardock Central allows you to manage all of your Stardock programs and applications, without having to search the internet for updates and so forth. Granted, most people on this forum only need it for GalCiv. It knows what your current versions are and only displays the "update" button when you really need it. It takes a little getting use
2) These shots were shots of the Galciv Beta and not of Expansion. I have no clue why the beta looked better than the final product.
The beta GUI was exactly like the expansion pack, no different.
That may or may not be, but nor would a planet take 32 billion credits from the empire to run factories that have nothing to build
Agreed! I like the idea of governer sliders. It would add a lot of flexability and realism without the micromanagement. I'd really like to see this in the possible "for pay" expansion pack.
The individual planet sliders do make sense from a micro-management point of view. But this game is an abstraction of a galactic empire. Think of it this way: in a real galactic empire there would be tens of thousands of star systems. Would any one person really sit down and fiddle with each system? No, you would generalize: I want so much of my empire devoted to this, so much devoted to that, and so forth. That's what this game is all about, in my opinion; going for the big st
If monthly block is based on when you submitted very first game,
I think you start with the last score submitted and work backwards.
It has to be warm rather than friendly, friendly is still one level too short
Just to clarify: Warm is one level less than friendly. I think you have to be "Close" which is one level above friendly.
I'd happily pay for it and buy it direct, but I wouldn't have to since I already purchased Drengin.net :) Edit: If you are serious about helping Stardock with direct funding, why not purchase drengin.net now? [Message Edited]
Or maybe they'd keep fighting to death... it could depend on their race and morality.
Marc, if you decide to join an empire please consider the Jedi Republic. We'd be happy to issue you a lightsaber! Click here to begin your training: http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp?id=336
One way to keep medals from taking up too much space and cluttering things up is to arrange them into "sets". Once you receive all the medals for a particular set, they are replaced by a better medal to indicate you've completed the set. For example the "5 game winner", "5 game winner with score of 1000", "10 game winner with score of 3000", and "20 game winner" would make a nice set. They should still give out the individual medals in a set so that new players can have early
If a Jedi could feel such a thing, there is but one name that could bring his metachlorian laced blood to pulse with fear: Darth FrolickingMan !!! :SURPRISED:
BarryB if you stack ships with the Terror star you can normally move the TS greater than 1 movement point. I've had them wizzing around the galaxy.
I believe this bug has been fixed.
Weeeee! I'm a fireman! Now I'm an astronaut. Weeeeee! ;)
Yeah. Hey, I'm all for companies making a fair profit but when I asked Symantec about getting a cd they wanted to charge me $10 for the "media" and then another $10 for S&H. 20 bucks to mail me a cd for software I already bought?
I recently had a harddrive crash and lost everything on my PC at home. In restoring my PC to it's former state, I was able to quickly redownload all GalCiv updates, re-register my Drengin.net account and download the latest beta, download the full version of WindowsBlinds 4 and a bunch of skins... Stardock Central just makes doing this such a breeze! Thank you Stardock. In contrast with this I also wanted to re-download Symantec's Norton Personal Firwall which I had purchased on-line (
That's an idea. Perhaps we could have "mobile" starbases without the stellar converter or whatever they call it, for a lower cost of 2,500bcs. Then people could use it for non-lethal(non-evil?) purposes.
Great idea. Perhaps the the movement rate could be increased to 2 or 3 if it doesn't contain the death star weapon.
Why take some run-of-the-mill sword (probably last used by a pirate recruit who was last seen swinging from a rope on an ANZAC vessle yardarm), when you can have a custom made lightsaber from the Jedi Republic? :d
Gerakken, I appriciate what you are saying. You seem to want to play the game in a realistic manner. You might think about multiple star bases (Party Palaces) in a sector as competing franchises. Is it efficient to have a McDonalds, Burger King, and Wendy's right next to each other? No! Is it realistic? Yes.
Those modules and missles are available in v1.05.
I agree. It is a game of galactic conquest, so planetary micromanagement should be at a minimum.
Welcome to the Jedi ranks, Berserk74! [Glancing at Berserk's metaverese rank] Impressive. To everyone: my presense is going to be somewhat spotty on the forum here for a couple of days. I suffered a catastrophic failure of my hard drive on my main pc at home. Total data loss. No backup. I was about to win another masso game too! Oh well, I'll backing up my system from now on.
I totally agree. This has bothered me as well.
If all you care about is a metaverse score, by all means, use the GCCG (and perhaps get an anomalous), but for me, I will not use it.
Personally, I don't think that the GCCG is the best way to boost metaverse scores, even if that is what you are after. Maso games can easily net 25,000 point a game. Post 4 games in a month and that boosts your metaverse score by 50,000 points. (25K x 4)/sqr(4) = 50K To do the same using The GCCG and getting an average of
