Hi folks, I can't see where in the Torian tech tree to unlock the tech capital. Am I being v stupid or are there so many other enhancements that it's missing? Many thanks, Jon

Hi all, I thought that this had been solved for good with the expansion and new patch but sadly I've just had a full system freeze and this using a medium hull rather than a large or huge one. I was wondering whether anybody else has experienced this with 1.6 mercenaries and will submit a ticket when i have the energy. Cheers, Jon
This has been reported in at least two other threads: [1.5]Games crash when creating or editing Huge ship in designer by LazySiege and one started by myself as well (I forget the name - now on page 2 of the forum) pshaw has been collecting all the tickets so i presume it'll be sorted out in the next patch.</
Missing this thread, I started a similar one a few days ago and had a couple more replies with the same problem. Clearly, there is a rogue pointer or some sort of memory leak somewhere. pshaw was asking for ticket numbers. Mine is SFG-322-63211 Cheers, Jon
Many thanks for your replies. I was wondering whether if was my system which is already starting to get a little elderly in computer terms - rather than the code. (Obviously I meant Iridium btw) Cheers, Jon
Hi, I've just submitted a ticket re this but was wondering whether anybody else has experienced it or it's something wrong with my machine only? Since 1.5 beta and now 1.5, after unlocking massive hulls I sometimes get a total freeze from the designer. In one instance, I clicked on iranium titan and then had to reboot immediately. Anybody else? Cheers, Jon <p
Further to this, is there a command line debug option of some sort so that I can run it to check whether cleaning the disk has solved the problem. I was imagining that then a crash would go to the desktop rather than freezing the system after which I've had to reboot first to safe mode and then normally into windows, maybe more than once, before getting back to normal? Cheers, Jon
In fact though the interface was odd it did get through as I later discovered. I should also mention that the crash was complete - a system freeze - though when I eventually got round to running chkdsk it found some errors so that may to blame. All the huge designs seems to be tainted so either some memory problem, or perhaps something specific to my machine. Cheers, Jon
Hi, I've twice got a crash when trying to create a Titan ship just after being lucky enough to get Massive scale construction through Unfortunate Genius. I've been trying to submit a zip file created using your support tool but it isn't going through. I also have a save file just before the second crash. Incidentally the text verification used is illegible using Opera though fine when using Chrome. Cheers, Jon </
Sorry, I should clarify re the Civ4 - it's the State property and Theocracy which wouldn't be pleasant - not the first three.
I've just reread quite a chunk of this thread and I think that several different things are being conflated. Brad has spent a huge portion of his life creating the iterations of this splendid game and it's obviously his baby. He wants of course to make the best game possible but is also repulsed if that game rewards political systems that he finds offensive. As a Brit somewhere in the centre of our politics I, coming from a very different place from him but that isn'
Hi, I'm playing 1.4 and see that Kinetic Augmentation unlocks a full Durantium driver rather than a prototype. But there's no tech to unlock a full Elerium Beam rather than a prototype - as I verified by using unlock in the console after which it still wasn't available (at least in the Thalan tech tree). Is this a design decision or a small bug? Cheers, Jon
tbh, the unfortunate Genius is far too commonplace and the chance for him should be massively reduced. This is one 'bug' where the solution should be that you never get 2 of them in 1 turn because it's rare to get 2 in one game.
Yes this did occur to me. But I thought it would add a small extra layer of coding which might be a pain for them; and that since it's so rare, it might be easier simply to call th
Hi, I had the extra anomaly spawning event late in a game when lots of surveyors were out there and instances of more than one "unfortunate genius" on the same move. Since I hadn't chosen a new tech after the first, their glorious live(s) were lost in vain. So please could we choose a new tech mid move, immediately after a genius dies. Cheers, Jon
Personally, I've always thought that you played games for fun unless (or perhaps even if) they are your job like chess has been for me. I'm therefore completely baffled why there should be such clamour when Brad is offering us a choice as to how to enjoy the game most. As to the technical questions I think it would be best if you could toggle the wheel/no wheel option at the start of a game without fiddling with prefs.ini. (This would mean that you could
I've just finished my first 1.4 game - Thalan, Genius on a large galaxy with five random opponents: Iconian, Terran, Krynn, Yor, Altarian + assorted minor races. It was a bit harder than without the glorious wheel and took even longer: nearly 18 hours. I didn't use the governors at all but did use the focus buttons extensively of course and found that they worked surprisingly well. I won by culture (didn't bother to fight the Altarians bu
A very good idea. And if it added the names of any planets in the starbase's economic sphere (if it is economic) that would be even better to decide which upgrades to apply.
Hi, I've just finished a game under 1.31 (Large galaxy, plenty of habitable planets playing Thalans at Genius v 5 random AI: Terrans, Krynn, Drengins, Iconians. Yor and several Minor races). Anyway, indeed the AI is much better at some things. But after 180 odd moves when I started a war with the Drengins, who admittedly hadn't had a good outing this time: although their medium hulled ships were quite well armed the vast majority had just two movement points whic
Hi, I just tried to update a design in the ship builder and the game crashed to the desktop. (I had to exit steam to restart as well since it thought the game was still active - presumably I could just have killed the process in task manager). Anyway, I imagine you've already had this reported and also that it's easily reproducible but I'll create a ticket if necessary? Cheers, Jon </p
I just did a quick start to test this and indeed while the wheel was dimmed out in my capital planet, when I clicked on it, it sprang into life. So Heaven knows what's going on. There are various different Governance techs. Do you know which one if any was supposed to unlock the wheel? Jon
So, I've tried this for three games now and got some impressions and wondered what other other people think? The main conclusions are that without a planet wheel it's a considerably harder game - a difference of between 1 and 2 levels; that the AI has improved considerably (but still needs to be given a larger invasion radius in the xml to be even scarier); and that contrary to Stardock's hope you actually need to do much more micro-managing without the plane
So firstly we hugely appreciate your very long development of this wonderful game and superb commitment to its development. But as to the wheel, there's clearly a conflict between a smallish minority of "hardcore" players who love it and a majority who don't. And you, SD, think of excessive micro-managing as overly tedious if not an exploit. What I'd suggest is that you leave the wheel in but only for a tiny minority of favourite planets. The first planet would hav
Quoting Frogboy, reply 25 Just to be clear: the global wheel is staying. The per planet wheel is going.
I know this has been done to death and appreciate, Frogboy, that Galciv is your baby from infancy onwards and your Stakhanovite efforts over nearly a quarter of a century. But I do think that children grow up and removing such a fine toy (the planetary wheel of course) from your teenage c
I'm wondering why you can't designate planets upon colonization and have a fixed (but separate) production wheel for each planet.
Sorry, what do you mean by fixed?
I haven't yet seen 1.3 so don't know how well the governor system will work but it does seem to be most unlikely in the first couple of iterations to be nearly as good as the wheel. So perhaps I could suggest a compromise. SD and in particular Frogboy don't like the wheel micromanagement and feel that "it's against the spirit of the game". Obviously when you have only one planet you do effectively have a planetary wheel. Perhaps on the gove
