i haven't payed since the last time I posted here. And OTC had been updated a few times. It seems that on my Mac OTC has gotten a lot slower and much less responsive. So much so that it is mostly unplayable at 1600x900 on Medium graphics settings. Before it was playable. Nothing has changed on my Mac. But no problem as my Mac is way below lowest spec. On the lowest graphics setting is runs perfectly.

Oh. I see. Thanks.
Almost every other day Steam downloads a new update of Offworld Trading Company. When I look at the news for OTC there is never any release notes or anything to show what was fixed/added or if indeed this game was updated. What is the story on this? How often are you updating on Steam? And if you are please write what was changed in the News section for the game. Every game on Steam does this.
`DeftMunky I have been playing on my Mac's Bootcamp partition (Vista) which didn't have edge scrolling enabled and it was ver playable except it keeps crashing on my old hardware/software. But I was still able to finish some tutorials and it is a wonderful game. Now that I can play it on OSX (Mavericks) which is more up to date I don't thing it will crash, and will be even more enjoyable.
It's been a while since I played and I see there is now an option to turn off edge scree scrolling, Thanks! That makes OTC 100% more playable for me.
Could it have been NGUI for the UI?
I'm the guy with the old below spec iMac. The game starts up nicely with smooth responsive menus now under both Vista and OSX.
My hardware is a late-2009 27" iMac running Mavericks. Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB I would rather run OTC in OSX but at this time I prefer running the game in my Bootcamp partition under Vista because I can
Thanks for the pointer Tigershawk. I'll try that. And no, it isn't pretty far down the minimum requirements. It's completely off the list (late-2009 iMac). Which means I don't expect any support. And since my specs are so low I even asked the devs if I should stop posting my feedback so as not to add noise to this forum. But they told me to keep posting because they were glad to know how the game performed on such a low-spec system. And besides, before this p
my menus are gone no too on Vista. I tried the start while holding down shift key to choose resolution. I tried various resolutions with/without windowed mode and nothing works. My drivers were just updated to the latest too. It was working before this update. Now I can't play at all. How do I start the game using DirectX 9 drivers? That option used to appear and now it's gone too. It is OK on Mac Mavericks though.
another reason it is better on Windows than on OSX is because you can disable that very irritating edge map scrolling (which is a problem on most games when the map is bigger than the viewport).
I run the game under both OSX and Vista, both on my iMac (Vista installed in Bootcamp partition). The reason to run under Windows is the game runs better, probably because Windows GPU drivers are better. I can run 1920X1080 (Medium quality) under Windows. To get the same performance under OSX I have to run it at 1600x900.
Cool. Thanks.
A while ago (before being on Steam Early Access) I heard that OTC was available for preorder and I was ready to buy it (I think the price was much higher then) and then I read the hardware specs. My hardwares was way below minimum spec so I decided to put off buying the game until I could get a more powerful computer (probably a few years away). I still kept up with the progress of OTC via Game Designer's Roundtable podcast but in the meantime I forgot about the minimum spec for this game
I use WASD. I just want to be able to turn off that map scrolling when the mouse pointer reaches an edge of the game screen. The map always scrolls when I don't want it to, like when I move the pointer down to the toolbar on the bottom left the map usually scrolls up. On Windows the edge scrolling can be enabled/disabled with the numerical keypad numlock. Lot's of Macs don't have numerical keypads unless you have one of those extended keyboards.
Just wonering what resolution and what quality settings you rin at and if gameplay is smooth?
I just boot my iMac into my Bootcamp partition with Vista and installed OTC. Using my Micosoft keyboard the numlock did disable that screen scroll when mouse pointer is at edges of screen. That alone makes the game a hundred times more enjoyable for me. Also on Vista I can run the game very smoothly at a 1920x1080 (Medium quality) instead of at 1600x900 (Medium quality) when on Mavericks. I guess Windows video drivers are better. I have one question...when I start the game I get
I was having the same problems with Mavericks. But I fixed it by lowering the game resolution down to 1600x900, and lowering my Mac monitor down to the same, then I could run in full screen without the font/menu corruption. My mac is a late-2009 iMac with 256mb of vram. if yours is newer with more vram maybe you can do 1920x1080.

DeftMonky thanks! I now think that the problem way magnified my by low spec Mac causing the scrolling to be jerky with a high resolution setting. I changed my Mac monitor to 1600x900, the game also at 1600x900 with Medium quality and full screen. It still looks great and after playing for over an hour the scrolling is better because it is much smoother but still way too fast in my opinion. And the map still scrolls when I don't want it too when I move my mouse pointer to the various
Great DeftMunky I'm going to try that right now. Oops. I spoke too soon. My Mac keyboard doesn't have a number lock. Hmmm. Maybe there is some key combination that mimics that on this small default iMac keyboard. I'll check it out. Thanks. Or maybe I should reboot in Bootcamp/Vista partition, install the OTC there and use my Microsoft full-keyboard. Too bad that partition is full and I'll have to delete some other game in order to install OTC.
I know about the right-click-drag panning. I didn't know about the WASD. I should have tried that. But the thing that bothers me is whenever I move the mouse pointer to a UI element at the edges of the screen, like the toolbar at the bottom left, it causes the map to scroll very fast without me wanting it to scroll - i really hate that (this is a pet peeve in lots of games where the map is bigger than the viewport). If there were some setting to disable mouse-pointer scrolling, and anothe
Watching some twitch videos and this doesn't seem to be a problem on Windows. Maybe it is only on Macs.
No reply. Hmmm. I wonder if people realize how irritating the finicky map scrolling can be. Maps that scroll when I don't want them to are a pet peeve of mine and a game killer. I don't even want to play until that is fixed. I can't be so unique as to be the only one who feels like this about such a thing. And the fact that it bothers me (and possible others) so much is a pretty good indicator that it should be addressed quickly. I sure hope it gets on the list of things t
I just installed the Mac version. I'm running Mavericks on a late-2009 27" iMac. 256MB VRAM. The game runs fine but on full screen the text describing the terrain tiles is too small to read. I'm running it at 1920 x 1080 on a native resolution of 2560 x 1440. When I select full-screen in the options it breaks all the text on the options screen so much that it is unreadable and hard to go back to turn off full-screen. I'm running the game in medium quality. In order to get
