WOM and Jafo: To quote myself: >If a skinner is making money from his product being hosted here, >then you are absolutely correct. Likewise if the skinner somehow >benefits from the exposure he receives from having his work hosted >here. I already acknowledged the exception of professional or semi-professional skinners, those who make money from their skins or whose careers are enhanced by the exposure. Those skinners obviously benefit from WC. I am speaking

I agree with CaveBear, having the "New" submenu that lets you create new objects from the available templates is very important. Preferably it should make available everything that was already on explorer's right-click menu. Also, I'm not quite sure how I can import into RightClick an ObjectBar popup bar I'd already created. Is that even possible yet? [Message Edited]

Having re-read Frogboy's proposal, I see it refers to "downloads by users who are also subscribers" and says nothing about requiring the skinner to be a subscriber. Somehow when I read it the first time, I thought it made reference to skinners who were also subscribers. It sounds like an excellent proposal, and a very nice gesture. I would only suggest that the Wallpaper and Bootskins secti

Admin Jafo... please, just Will is fine! It always surprises me when people underestimate the value of content. I don't want to get into a chicken or the egg argument about content vs. distribution... But to accept your notion of symbiosis presupposes that the skinner derives some benefit from Wincustomize hosting their skin. WC derives benefit, as it provides the content that make the various Stardock p

I know paxx, I just meant that it's such an obvious issue that they would certainly already know about it, so one would think they would have mentioned it. I know IconX already is available standalone, but I hadn't heard they were going to totally de-integrate it with DX... But I guess that doesn't change the fact it doesn't get along with RightClick.

>The intention of this proposal is to promote further subscriptions >to allay this deficit. Encouraging further subscriptions is a laudable and necessary goal. However, by targeting skinners as the pool from which to obtain additional subscriptions, it strikes me somewhat as double-dipping. >To do this it's appropriate that the recipient of contribution >income be themselves a contributor aka subscriber else it tends to >defeat the purpose. I guess th

I don't know if my chiming in will be considered appropriate as I'm not a Journeyman, but I submit this for your consideration. It seems to me there are two issues: 1) What should the reward criteria be: download quantity, ratings, judged quality ala GUI-Olympics, etc. 2) What is trying to be accomplished. As for #1, I would say only two things: There ought to be some kind of historical consideration, to reward people who have already contributed and have hundreds of thousand

I can confirm that RightClick does not display any menu if IconX is running (as part of DX, which is the only way I run IconX). I can get the configuration box via the systray icon, but no "rightclick menu" at all. If DX/IX is not running, RightClick works fine. I find it impossible to believe it was not tested in this configuration, but there was no mention of it not working in the release note.

Martin, This is a good start - you've obviously been working hard. A lot of the most interesting stuff will come in the AOI section, so we'll still have to wait and see on that. Two things that I immediately see are missing: 1)User's text color preference and 2)under weather, the user's hemisphere (northern or southern). For the 99% of you wondering why #2, it's so the moon phase can be displayed accurately. I also think it would be good if the units

Martin, this was a nice thing to to... By making it easier, I'm sure it will help more people get started. It certainly doesn't expose " ALL the data from weather.com" though... If you take a look at the latest version of LookingGlass Weather Suite, you'll see that I've included support for Hourly forecast data, Narrative forecasts , and Severe Weather Alerts . <img src="h

Martin, I agree that this is a good idea. I think it should be structured in two parts: 1) A "GlobalWidgetPreferences" key that contains the sort of information you describe, and then a subkey called "AppSpecific" where individual widgets can store their own proprietary information (each in its own subkey), but in this agreed-upon place, instead of spreading it all over in random registry entries of disk files. That will be better than the semi-chaos that now exists in terms o

Thanks for the info, Hippy. Can you confirm that if you have RightClick and IconX active, and rightclick on a desktop icon, that you actually get the properties menu of the object and not the "Stardock RightClick" menu? This has been a problem with OB for years, and basically precludes using OB's "Desktop menu" (basically RightClick) and IconX at the same time.

Well, it's an offshoot of ObjectBar (isn't it?) and OB hasn't had a functional update for over a year and a half. (Feb-03) Mabey it inherited OB's timetable. I'm really looking forward to RightClick _IF_ it has the conflict with rightclicking and IconX fixed. I'm curious as to how the skinning functionality will work if it's no longer part of ObjectBar...

I run with shadows enabled all the time, but with two caveats for WindowsFX: 1. A few apps must be excluded/ignored, as shadowing gives them fits. 2. I've disabled all fade IN animations, because the delay them impose (yes, only a couple hundred ms) causes some apps to not paint their menus or windows properly or at all. But fade OUT animations are always fine. Seeing alpha-blending in

I think this is nice for people to see... It can give people ideas about things they didn't know were possible. You should include a credits list (as part of the posting) though that lists the objects/widgets that are exhibited in the demos, so that if viewers see something they think is cool, they can look it up and download it. There're too many things in the libraries now for people to go through them all looking for a visual match. Cheers...

Frogboy, I'm still seeing the same issues with "zoomer" functionality in IconX 1.0. I followed up with a couple of emails to Alberto as you suggested, but haven't heard anything back in 1week+. Congratulations on the shareware release and "G.A."!
