The 2K forums are probably considered a part of their advertising by 2K, so the censorship and fanboys are to be expected. CivFan is different, they're supposed to be somewhat independent. I used to lurk there looking for Civ2&3 info back before Civ4 came out. It was fairly mello back then. But when Civ4 came out, it became fanboy city. I think Civ4 brought in a massive influx of younger users to that forum. The post written by Gyrate h
I don't see how Civ fanboyz couldn't be the worst. They are backed by 2k which I believe stacks the deck using shills. These people are there 24-7 to post immediately if you post a dissenting remark. Most aspire to work there, are beta testers, or other types of coders. I found one guy who was actually a beta tester there. His name is Dale. He can say whatever he wants to you in response to your post, but when you reply back even briefly it is trolli

it's funny, I did a OCC game yesterday and enjoyed the heck out of it b/c I got to play "builder" in it. Much like civ4 was for me, I enjoy managing smaller/builder games more but I typically am more likely to win when I aggressively conquer everyone in sight. Unfortunately, killing everyone in sight has always been a stronger high-level strategy in civ than playing bob the builder (as many of prefer). now that I've gotten the warmonger bug out of my system I think I'll try
the BIG DESIGN DECISIONS HE MADE RUINED THE GAME FOR ME HOW IS THAT MOOT? Are you claiming that 1UPT wasn't his idea.. seriously??. That's nnot a very widespread opinion. Most people I know, hardocre Civ IV lovers and usually Civ V haters, do at least recognize this was a *good* decision. There are many other things that can be criticized about Civ V, 1UPT is generally celebrated as a *good* change.<br

There's been some assumptions here about what my joining Stardock will mean for the games the studio will be putting out from now on. Fear not all - they'll be clearly recognizable as Stardock games. One thing that I will say though, is that Stardock's g

Where is all this Civ 5 hate coming from? I actually haven't played the game myself so I have no way to judge, but is it just a few people that loved Civ 4, so no matter how Civ 5 played it was going to be bashed by these people? Or was it one of those.. 2 months later people suddenly realized they actu

JS: Well the thing about design at Firaxis is that it’s fairly unique compared to design at other companies. Most companies have a lot of specialised designers, so for an RPG you’d have quest designers and narrative designers, and area designers and maybe a l

It doesn't matter how large or small the percentage of said failure attributed to the designer it still exists. If the designer knows he cannot fulfill his responsibilty toward a project then the designer should leave before the product launches. That is unless the designer doesn't really have a problem with the higher-ups or the rest of the team..........in which case he-most-certainly-is-t

What would be even more telling would be to look up their age. I think there would be a trend there. Like younger members of the audience who haven't lived through three decades of game development from the Atari 2600, to the C64, all the way to present

We don't make decisions based on Internet politics. Good games sell. Jon is a key ingredient in our ongoing strategy. Without Jon, there's no realistic way we can take our game engine and make it extensible via Python and such. I would challenge any Internet person to name someone more
Don't be insane. Do you have any idea how much of the design process as well as scheduling is altered when you're dealing with a publicly traded company? Seriously. If you don't like Civ V, think carefully about what it is you don't like about it. Seriously. Moreover, as some have already observed, Kael is the one taking over design on Elemental from me. We desperately need someone who has AAA
Thanks all, looking forward to helping make Elemental and future Stardock games amazing. And stirring up a bit of trouble on the forums from time to time, of course. Jon
glad you're here, I just tracked down my impulse account info to post here. I'll buy elemental now just b/c you're on board.
