More than half of what I know about GC2 I learned simply from playing the game. A large portion of the rest of that comes from the forums and the wikia. And I enjoyed it. Playing and learning wasn't boring. Reading the forums wasn't boring. Looking through the wikia to find something relevant to my situation wasn't boring. Hell, reading the manual six months after I started playing the game wasn't boring.[/quote
One of the best times with this game for me was when it was new and it seemed that every turn I'd learn or find something new. Like reading a great book for the first time. Didn't know how the AI would react, didn't really know any ways of taking advantage of the AI; It was like role playing since I didn't know how my chopices would effect the later game. I didn't necessarily do that great but it was fun. My only other 4x experience was with Civ2
I am confident that if I stick with the game I will eventually become comfortable with it. But there are two things I dread about buying and starting a new game. One is that the game will have moments of excessive difficulty. Two is the process of learning how to play. Game manuals are boring. Unfortunately in-game tutorials are rarely, if ever, as informative as the manual. And neither manuals nor tutorials are as informative as strategy guides, walkthroughs, and message boards. But
Am I exaggerating by saying this game has a steep learning curve? I'm a newbie Twilight-of-Arnor player, looking for a good walkthrough. I haven't found one. In fact I think there is none. What do I mean by a good walkthrough? It should essentially be a tutorial-
Thank you both for the replies. It seems that I am going to have to reconcile myself to looking at a ship's range statistic as an approximation, at least until a ship ventures out far enough for me to see the gray line that shows its range limit. Every ship with the same range statistic, however, does have the same actual range. So maybe being precise is not so important. At this point, I think the range-statistic's inaccuracy constitutes a game defect. That is, a bug. Even if it's a
I have just started playing GC II Twilight of the Arnor, a normal scenario, tiny map. Regarding ships' statistics, the speed figure seems to be perfectly right. A ship with a 3 pc/wk speed actually moves 3 parsecs per week, diagonally as well as horizontally or vertically. But the range statistic seems inaccurate. For example, a colony ship and my flagship each shows a range of 1.5 sct. Presumably sct means sector. But each of these ships can actually travel 32 parsecs from my ho
I am a newbie too, but once you have Twilight of Arnor installed, you can launch it and play any of the three campaigns: Dread Lords (i.e., the original GalCiv II), Dark Avatar, or Twilight. For the sake of the story, after getting some experience via one or more non-campaign scenarios, I would play the Dread Lords campaign before the other two. Since you would be using the Twilight launcher, you would be playing the most updated version of Dread Lords, and any tech trees available
I already have all of the Gal Civ games- I had downloaded 2.0 update Nov 6 - but there was an update 2.01 Nov 25 that is supposed to be thru Impulse - I have been unable to see this listed for download? Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, Cobra133. I don't know if I can help. What I know for sure is that I installed and registered my GalCivII Gold Edition on Nov 28. I then bought and downloaded Twilight, which fa
I believe you need to buy it. That is, Twilight is not just a patch. It's an expansion pack. If you download the expansion pack, you will download version 2.01. That download can be made at no extra cost if you buy the CD. Open Impulse. Click the Explore tab. Click Games. Click Strategy. You should see GalCivII - Twilight of the Arnor listed for $29.95. Click that and you'll be given three options for purchase: 1) Digital download of Twilight for $29.95. 2) Digital Down
1 - Those are indeed all, as there are only as many scenarios as fans have made. 2 - In the case of the scenario you have, it goes in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\Data\English\Scenarios, as it is a scenario for Dark Avatar. If the scenarios folder doesn't exist, create it.
<span style="font-size: 7.5pt; color: #00
I just installed GCII with Dark Avatar and Twilight of the Arnor. The second in-game tutorial mentions scenarios that can be downloaded from the GalCivII website. From Impulse/MyGames/Mods/GalacticLibrary, I found a short list of scenarios. From the top of the list, I downloaded "Battle of the Gods Redux," but I do not know how to install it. Two questions: 1. I expected a longer list of scenarios than I found. Are the ones I found the only ones available, besi
