@kona and mirsguy, I'm actually going to buy it through Bestbuy. I've had nothing but good experiences with Bestbuy, and the store near me is having a sale on graphics cards. @aviyur: I'm hesitant to get a new computer. Mine has been running fine for 4-5 years, no problems. I updated the RAM, and soon I'll update the graphics card. It's a fine computer in fine condition. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e]

Wow, geez carguy. These are great. I'll definitely look into these. They're both in my price range, nVidia, and at a cursory inspection will work with my computer. Thanks, that was a lot of help! [e digicons]:cylon:[/e]

Touche, Pirate-Jack, touche. Musn't forget the DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA! @rezonator, you may have a point about the starbases. I have hardly played Entrenchment, because pretty much immediately after I got it my graphics card died and I've been using my built in crap card since, so I'm basing these off of Vanilla Sins. But as to the problem of crazy mad rampaging bombers, I had already proposed that they be underpowered against shielded targets, and that they would be automatically prog

Yeah that's right. I have another question. Sorry, but you guys are helpful. STOP BEING SO HELPFUL! [e digicons][/e] Anyway, my PC's graphics card asploded. Now I'm looking for a new one. What does it all mean? The nVidia website is heavy on technobabble and low on explanation. I'm leaning toward the GeForce 8800 GT, but I really have no idea
anyway, no offense to the OP but i cant say as i like those ideas. it makes sense, sure, but... besides, we dont know exactly what kind of weapons these ships carries. agreed, fighters should be useless vs frigates and larger, but bombers could be carrying anything from high explosive warheads, to nukes, to thermo-plasmic charges, to EMP's, to anti-matter bombs, or some sort of alien technology we cant imagine.
That's true
I dont think this is needed. Carrier spam is annoying as hell, but nerfing SC to nothingness isnt a good idea either. As for these small ships blowing up giant caps, think of any modern day attack aircraft or even WWII torpedo bombers. The Yamato was sunk fairly easily by torpdedos, and any modern day carrier/ship is easy picking for a harpoon. What keeps these aircraft at bay are fleet defenses like Aegis crusiers.&n

It obviously can't be an emp, because the wave is visible. Sins doesn't specify what it is. Besides, even assuming it is an EMP, the argument that the ships would survive it as they're EMP shielded is flawed. You can use the Kostura on any planet, even other Vasari ones. So does that mean that only a select few Vasari ships (yours) decided to EMP harden themselves against a Kostura? Wouldn't the other Vasari do the same? Especially since they get the same exact weapon? I'd hyp

In Sins, strikecraft are golden. The more you have, the better. They slice apart enemy formations and ships. Essentially, carrier spam. Forty bomber squads, even just thirty is worth more on the battlefield that a couple of capital ships. They're well-nigh invulnerable to everything, and take forever to die. I think that a better use of strikecraft in Sins would not be as anti-fleet or planetary defense, but as raiders. Strikecraft, when used in Sins against heavily armed a

I think Proletari has a point. When the Kostura projectile hits a planet, it hammers out a GIGANTIC wave of plasma/debris/fire/something that washes completely around the gravwell. I'd always assumed that it was this ejecta that caused the disabling of the structures/ships. So when gigantic plumes of stellar debris hit everything in a gravwell except your own ships, that is confusing. Say you had a a fleet right next to your enemy's fleet. Your enemy's fleet will be disabled, but why not your

Meh. All my games I play are always large custom maps, with at least five stars and around 50 planets. I like the crusaders, because they're fast and mobile, and I can use them as fast response units. That's just me. Oh, and about my friend's fleet, that was a scouting fleet. Later that game (I was talking to my friend last night, and I mentioned that same game because of this post, and he reminded me of something else) I attacked one of his planets with only about 50 Crusader

Couple dozen meaning in the 50s and higher. I didn't count. I think it was around 60-70, but it might've been slightly lower. It was hugely laggy. I can't check on my recorded games, cause my graphics card asploded. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e]

When the police investigate the mass deaths, they find the joke still on the computers. They read it, and die. You tell the joke to your friends. They die. @ Azrak I've never had a problem. I had a fleet of 125 Destras go up against three Halcyons, five Drone hosts and a couple dozen illums. They got hammered, about 25% casualties to the loss of all but one halcyon and a handful of illums. This was on multiplayer too, against one of my friends who's proficient with this game. Some people carrier spam, some people scout spam. I prefer heavy frigate spam, with a side of bacon. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e] </
